Fly fishing for Bream - setup

Reply
Its that time of year when bream fishing is good. Here is a little about a setup you can use to be successful. Its a great type of fishing for kids once they get the hang of casting a flyrod. The action is usually enough to keep them interested, you can usually a find a place to go close by and don't necessarily have to make a whole day of the event, and its good 'together time'. As importantly, its just fun. Take a peak, give it a try and enjoy.

Awesome job. Thanks for helping a lot of us out. I haven't bream fished with my fly rod since my pre-teen years (1970's) at Sportsman's Pond and Blind River. I've been debating going back to it since my last trip to Bayou Black where we hammered the bream on light weight spinning tackle. I've forgotten most everything till now!!

On another note, is there a way to strip the music out of the video. I would like to run the video in places on the site other than in the reports, but can't if the music is copyrighted. Let me know at my email tonyt@lasmag.com

Thanks again!

Great info! Grew up fly-fishing in City Park in New Orleans. Had a ball with the bream, bass and an occasional sac-a-lait. I agree that the 4/5 weight rods and lines work best as I could only find 6 weight back then - good for bass but too heavy for bream. I also had a 9 weight Garcia Conolon rod that worked well only if fishing saltwater. Way too heavy!!! Today I fish several ponds up in MS with my old 6 weight rod, but trying to find a 4/5 weight. Just don't want to lay out $100 for one. Most stores around New Orleans or the Northshore don't even carry fly rods. Anybody know anyone carrying them for a more reasonable price, let me know.

A friend of mine just bought one at cabela's in Gonzales ready to fish minus the flies for right at $100. Real nice rig, It is a 5 wt, 9' and I think its a White River brand. It casts as good or better than mine. It is a really nice rig for the price. You can order it online I'm sure and not have to drive to Gonzales. Bass Pro has probably got even more selection but I just haven't been there lately looking at fly fishing rods to see what I like. Good luck and you won't have much trouble finding a rod you like at either of those places.

The closest replacement for the Accardo Round Dinny is at Breambugs.com and called the Pultz Rollie Pollie.
