I made a trip to the Pensacola area over the weekend to do some kayak tarpon fishing off of the beach. Friday morning was dead calm with lots of activity. After quickly catching about a dozen Leatherjacks and a couple Thread-fin for live bait bait, we began trolling just outside of the second bar. We literally saw hundreds of tarpon, but they were pretty finicky and just wouldn't eat. My friend jumped one off and I connected with a nice one that stayed hooked for a 30 minute battle. Saturday was marked with storms everywhere and rough seas. Totally different day with only a few fish spotted in the rough seas. A friend broke one off and that's the only action we had.
