Inshore fishing - Redfish and Trout

My wife and I will be flying to Louisiana and renting a car around the end of October.
I've watched many TV shows on redfish and speckled trout, so on this trip I plan to give it a shot. Being from northern Minnesota, I fish all the time, but I don't know a lot about this type fishing, other than what TV has shown me. I've been down here before, but it was always helping clean up after hurricanes or dealing with the oil spill. Never for pleasure.
It seems like Venice and Grand Isle are the names that always come up, but are there other areas to fish, also?
Is this a good time of year to chase reds and trout? If so, what is the best way? Hire a guide? Rent a kayak? Cast from shore?
As I said, this is completely new to me, but redfish and specks have always been on my 'Bucket List', so any information on where to go, how to do it, who to fish with and any other tips will be greatly appreciated.
Re: Inshore fishing - Redfish and Trout
You will be coming down just in time for some of the best action of the year. October and November are great months to fish here. Your best bet is to hire a guide since you will be boat less. There are several other locations to fish out of besides the two you mentioned above. I fish out of Shell Beach, only 40 minutes from downtown NOLA. The fall fishing out of Shell Beach is about the best and most consistent in the state. Call, text, or email me if you need some more info on the area and if I can be of assistance.

Contact Nick at Nick's Marina in Lafitte. Guaranteed good time and great catch. And just a short ride from New Orleans.
