Trout finally showed up

Forgot to take a pic but we finally put some speckled trout on ice yesterday morning fishing the Rigolets/Lake Borgne area. Three of us managed to catch 17 trout along with 2 reds. No specific plastic seemed to be any better than another and believe me we threw the tackle box at them. They are definitely scattered out.
We never did anchor, just drifted shorelines and oyster reefs in about 3 to 5 ft water using popping corks. Been a long summer without a trout to speak of for us so I couldn't be happier.

Y’all ever tried a wake bait ? If been using the H2O mullet wake bait , if y’all are fishing in 3-4 ft clean water that’s all i would use , been doing great with them for years, I don’t own a cork, haven’t use one in years 🧙‍♂️🎣

LastCast,Hope to FINALLY get me some fishing therapy, gonna give ole Wiz's wakebaits and MirroDines a thorough work-out this Th and he was telling me every speck he cleaned had mullets in their bellies, kinda makes perfect sense as mullets allow specks to pack on some weight vs shrimp that do not pack the same caloric punch as mullets do and think where Wiz was fishing there were tons of shrimp jumping and he caught all his specks on HARD plastics!!!Can't beat matching de hatch!!!

Like I said, we threw the tackle box at them. Lures that caught for us yesterday were Matrix shad, Matrix vortex, Berkeley rattle shrimp, Berkeley gulp shrimp, TKO shrimp, H and H cacahoe and H and H sparkle beetle. I did try tight lining various lures but all bites came under a cork

A wake bait is a shallow running crank bait, more commonly used in fresh water bass fishing, that was introduce Into the salt water environment , it’s a great rattling plug that runs on surface or if you want to run deeper just crank it faster normal running about 2-3 ft under you can cover a lot of water in a short time, great for running over grass beds , the first time I used them I was hooked Academy selling them for 3.99 $ Mullet being my favorite 🧙‍♂️🎣

Wiz,Just found three wakebaits that you suggested and hope Buddy and I find a few willing participants on NShore tomorrow.Got one rod hooked up with my go-to-redfish lure,Bomber Spinner bait, and the other currently has MirroDineXL(suggested by anonymous Lake P expert speck mauler)and Academy not only has ya favorite wakebaits but they also have excellent supply of MirroDines, can't wait to fish both near grassbeds.Hard to beat Bomber for sight-casting,especially if water clarity and depth right on!!!Let ya know how we do!!One of these days, gonna maul some specks on mullet wakebait!!
