Thinking about hunting the Joyce or Maurepas via paddle craft. Planning on paddling in and landing a deer or pig. Any advice you can give is appreciated.

Have heard about some very big deer in Maurepas and plenty of folks hunt that vast swamp and best idea is to use Google Maps and start scoping out the area(s)that you find that look appealing.Buddy of mine who passed away about 4 years ago used to tell me he hunted a ridge out there, not 100% sure where he was talking about but best guess is he used pirogue to paddle in off 55 and hunted one of the bigger bayous out there.Good luck,ya just might stumble upon nice honey-hole!!!

They have some nice bucks I n Maurepas but they are tough swamp bucks. The challenge is to find a place to park your vehicle safely to enter a good area. Better than average chance if you park near Ruddock on 51 the trash will break into your vehicle while you’re out. Maybe not first or second time but eventually they’ll get you. I don’t believe they are allowing you to park on side of I 10 anymore but someone may be able to clarify. The game is there getting to them is the challenge. Good luck

Guess one could launch at Lee's Landing, probably best bet and avoid the 'trash' breaking into vehicles.Probably not that long a run and I did paddle pirogue from Lee's Landing to some very nice sloughs in Joyce WMA.Sucks that one has to worry about vandalism. It is not restricted to just along 55 as I have heard vandals hit vehicles at numerous launches!!!One way to definitely avoid dat is such a pain but getting dropped off and picked back up 100% solves dat issue!!!Good luck and I hope to nab some fat and sassy specks on NShore and swapped out my SD card on game cam in private lease and finally got day-time video of nice doe activity on food plot!!!

I don’t feel the deer hunting is near as good on Joyce as Maurepas. They run Joyce pretty hard with dogs and use mud oats during high water to access almost all of it.
