Brought Home Some Bacon

Came across a herd of 20 pigs while squirrel hunting this afternoon with my boy on Pearl River WMA. Dropped one at about 40 yards with 12 gauge 3.5 inch T shot. Any doubts I had using this load on pigs are long gone. Was a running broad side shot and rolled in his tracks. There are 64 bbs in the round I'm shooting. 9 bbs entered the rib cage. 3 went all the way through to the other side and were laying under the skin. 1 made a complete pass through. Keep in mind this was a smaller pig, around 50-60 lbs but feel confident now this round could be used on something a bit larger if need be, especially at closer distance.

Thanks Steelsprayer. Came across pigs on each of 4 squirrel hunts this year on Pearl River WMA. They seem to be everywhere, much more than in the past. Going to do our best to thin them out. Got me concerned though about deer hunting. I'm not seeing much in the way of deer sign. Thinking the overpopulated hogs are pushing them out and taking over.

Last Cast,Way to go towards thinning out an extremely thick feral hog population out there.Have a buddy from Abita KC's that wants to join me on ether a Big Branch Marsh tree rat hunt or Pearl River tree rat/hog hunt and we might opt for Pearl River hunt,though a mid-week hunt.I used to routinely see plenty of hogs in both Big Branch and Pearl River though think the feral hog population in Big Branch must have gotten decimated,possibly by deer hunters using archery only.Got plenty enough tree rats for nice stew and my older son shot a feral hog just yesterday and got him quartered!Hope to chase some Lady P specks next Wed and have client meetings rest of week so no chance of tree rat hunt but just might hit ole Honey Island Swamp next Sun when Saints have a bye!!Congrats!!

Just checked the regs and this week end is Youth Deer Only for Honey Island Swamp so just wanted to advise accordingly.Always a great time to introduce young hunters to stalking deer or hogs just be prepared to have numerous hunters in Honey Island Swamp.Duck season not that far away and I need to harvest nice supply of Giant Palmetto branches and do camo stencil job on antique Chapman and do my best to scout ahead of duck season as opposed to scouting on the fly,which definitely works!!Thin out those porkers as much as yall can!!!
