Let's hear the duck reports!

Went out to to put roseau cane on several duck blinds yesterday and spent most of the day doing it. We made several trips through the marsh back and forth to the duck lease. After the work was done we took a short boat ride and saw 8 motled ducks for the day. That is it. No teal, greys, spoonies, redheads, no other ducks. I know we still have two weeks to go but was hoping to see some action but not to be. Habitat conditions are ideal right now, we have all of the vegetation in the ponds a duck could want to eat but they are not there. This is going to be interesting.

tons of teal up and down oak river from lacroix to below bakers bay. until this week, skippys had 100's of teal with a few big duck mixed in. it's hard to figure out..........

Re: Not Looking Good For Ducks
I assume that high water and wind made the teal bug out; that's what usually happens. I hope they show up with the front for the weekend and the youth hunt.

Re: Not Looking Good For Ducks
Water been high for a while and the winds Saturday definitely moved what ever was in the marsh out, Rode the lease last year day before the season opener and didn't see a bird, went opening morning and shot teal go figure was ready for a blue bird day, hopefully the next fronts move some birds down, hunted Alabama last Monday thru Friday covered up with does, no shooter bucks, left'em walkin

Was supposed to try our best to fish Lady P this Wed but one of our fishing partners may have suffered a stroke(got brief text from his ex-wife)and the weather aint looking good for the NShore so it may be while before I get a chance to scout NShore.Hate de prospect of back-to-back-to back miserable duck seasons but from what is being reported dat is about what I can unfortunately look forward to!!!

Duck seasons last few years been a crap-shoot(pun intended)and hope we don't roll snake eyes this go-round!!!Just got off phone with Medicare Client that may have had slight stroke over the week end but he sounded fine on phone and was back to his usual jovial self-too bad the weather tomorrow aint gonna cooperate in the least and fortunately for me,my Medicare Client Schedule getting jammed-up,hope to be able to squeeze in some mid-week fishing trips-know there are healthy specks to be caught and just ordered plenty of hard and soft plastics, some of which I have NOT tossed in plenty of year but used to be incredibly effective speck-mauling plastics, especially dipped in Chartreuse Spike It!!!

Re: Not Looking Good For Ducks
According to some highly educated duck scientist. The majority of ducks that migrate to Louisiana do so during the harvest moon. Which occurred in late September of this year. Basically, the vast majority of ducks we will get down here will happen around the harvest moon. Cold fronts matter very little to migration. So, what you see now is what you gonna get.

concretecracks, I was always told that ducks indeed migrate based upon photoperiod(amount of hours of daylight)and fronts that they ride in to get to wherever the feed might be located.I certainly hope whatever is here is NOT all we gonna get and I would be the first to dispute that claim and have pretty decent evidence about 3 years ago when most of Arkansas froze over, sending plenty greenheads to LA,NShore Marsh was loaded up with em and had I had Go Pro on my head,ya woulda thought I was in Stuttgart,Arkansas as they were many mallards circling me!!!Just my 0.02!!!

P.S. An informed source(s)has confirmed presence of plenty ducks in certain areas of SELA!!!

Hopefully with the time change this weekend they’ll know to head south.

From what I read and have heard, gadwalls and teal are the earliest migraters and for those folks fortunate enough to have quality leases, bet yall gonna see plenty of teal and hopefully greys starting their migrations.I like to look at things as the half-full glass and if dem quackers do not show up,maybe dem fat specks and reds will abound and know that plenty of Lady P fishermen nabbing plenty, plenty specks and they do not want to broadcast locations and I will not likewise broadcast specific locations!!!Once the doggone weather stabilizes and I catch half a break in my schedule, fully intend to scout/fish soon and need to do camo stencil job on dat antique Chapman that is over 32 years young but still plenty serviceable!!!Good luck to all and too bad my boys are well past Youth Hunts!!!

With the cold front that passed through shaking things up I hope some ducks have come into the area. I wont be doing the youth hunt this year. Hopefully we will get some good reports of decent duck hunting after the weekend.

Re: Let's hear the duck reports!
Did contact a fellow who did not take any youths today but is going to tomorrow and he said one of his buddies had 2-youth limit today and another duck/fish buddy said his buddy's lease loaded up with both teal and big ducks. He and I chatted about why the ducks here vs last few years and it probably has lot to do with fact that extreme flooding conditions in Mid-West and N either delayed/eliminated flooded corn and planting of corn plus extreme cold up N has those of us down here licking our chops.Got outstanding reports from a few select SE LA areas and dat gets me excited.Unfortunately, one of my die-hard duck hunting Mafia members recently suffered a stroke and he and I chatted just before start of Tulane-Tulsa game and hope he can get back I de saddle soon.He and I have good friend with outstanding Venice connections and wished Venice was tad closer to those of us on NShore.Chasing MirroDine-fed specks tomorrow in Lady P with another member of duck hunt Mafia and hope we not only nab a few fat specks and possibly reds but see some ducks!!!

Dey say a picture says 1000 words and dat pic certainly does!!!Miss my Youth Hunts as my boys are 31 and 23 and 23 year old in Law School(maybe he can lend a hand in getting waterfowl laws changed to NOT allow hunting flooded crops)!!!Can't wait til E Zone Opener in few weeks and dat pic reminds me dat not only do I need to harvest some fresh palmetto branches but need to camo-stencil ole Chapman pirogue!!Hope he gets on em tomorrow and I hope to nab some fat and sassy specks and maybe a few reds for the grill!!!Think combo helped us-lack of flooded crops up North/Mid-West and early frigid weather up de flway.Guess hope springs eternal and all of SE LA might be in for memorable duck season!!!If nothing else,Lady P seems to be cooperating with nice specks!
