Re: Backyard Bucks - Shooting Deer Out the Window
January 24 at 11:30am
Some of the biggest deer I have ever killed have been outside of my bedroom and bathroom windows. Mostly a night.
I am from the central Alabama black belt region and have been living in Louisiana for nearly 15 years. I only get to go home to deer hunt about twice a year if I am lucky.
Some of the best memories of my youth revolve around that bathroom window in my grandmothers house with my brothers scoping deer.
I can remember how frustrated we all would get when we would hunt all day and see only does and small bucks only to come home and from around 11 pm to 4:30 am have the bigger more mature bucks show up to chow down on the half dollar size White Oak acorns all night.
At first and for what seemed like years, we were strictly forbidden to shoot them. However, my grandmother, the Saint that she was, finally broke down and let us take turns.
Great memories and many times wish that I could go back to those days. Our nearest neighbor was my first cousin who lived two miles away. My grandmothers front yard alone was five acres and I have been EXTREMELY Blessed to have property to hunt on.
This was back when the only people that hunted were country folk. At one point in my life, not including my families property, I had a written permit to hunt over 7,000 acres of land along the Alabama River which joined my families property.
Now days, all you see is out of state plates because Deer hunting has gone commercial. I am just glad I was Blessed to have had that experience. An experience that will never be enjoyed in the South Eastern United States again.
