Ignorance On The Water

Made a trip to the Chalmette Wall on Friday after the locks opened and met an older gentleman at the launch, we exchanged pleasantries for a few minutes then launched our boats and went our separate ways. I went to my usual spot and anchored up and started fishing. It was a little slow but steady and after about an hour or so i noticed the gentleman i met at the dock making his way in my direction. There had been another boat to my right that was catching fish but for whatever reason moved on, so i motioned to the to the older gentleman to come over to where he was and told him the fish were biting to the right of me. He came over and pulled into the spot and started catching trout. After about an hour the bite slowed for both of us, so i started casting in a different direction, behind my boat and starting catching trout almost one after the other, so i told the older gentleman to come over on side of me to get into the action. As soon as he came over he starting catching as well until he got hung up on the bottom. As he was making his way to the snag with his trolling motor, two african american men in a Key West boat that must have been watching us hauling in trout decided to try to motor over to try to get in on the action and almost ran into the older gentleman trying to free his line. Right away they started yelling and cursing at the older gentleman for getting in their way and threatening to whip his A--! I just looked over and starting to shake my head in disgust and they started to curse me too for shaking my head. It's a good thing that i was having a good day fishing and didn't let these two MORONS get the best of me. There is no place for A-Holes like this on the water, but it seems like every year more of them show up. Going fishing is my way to get away from people like this!

I hear you brother, same with me retired 2 years ago and now I fish probably 2-3 times a week mostly catching and releasing my catch , have had dum Azzs park right next too me before and get Peed because I let them go , telling me too move so that they can get on the spot I’m anchored , well you know that’s not gonna happen, if I tell you to come over that’s one thing, but don’t come and demand to me too move because then it’s game on with me !! Yep there’s Dum Azzs out there , had one yesterday telling his buddy there’s that MF again catching trout and letting them go as they passed by me . 🧙‍♂️🎣

They wouldn't have a problem with you letting them go if they knew how to fish and could catch their own. I usually let the bigger ones go, But those 13 & 14' trout taste way too good to put back. I guess most real fishermen are True Sportsmen and have respect for other True Sportsmen. I don't have time for Ignorance in my life. If i see somebody releasing trout when i'm out on the water, i'll know it's you and introduce myself, Tight Lines!

That my friend is known as Assault-when you threaten someone and intend to do bodily harm. Should have got the numbers off the boat and a description of the two and called the Game Agents immediately. There is not place for that in the outdoors. If you do not report them, the next time will be exactly the same or worse. I do not get into verbal confrontations with anyone, record it on your phone, take pictures, and make the call.

IF you do not stand for what is right, then the ignorant will decide what the educated do.

It was so nice to not have a crowd this morning, sat in one spot and every cast was a keeper kept 25 trout and let go 1 trout that weighed 3.6 lbs to fight another day, seeing only 2 boats in general area was fantastic , taking these fillets to my lil brother and cousin up in Pointe Coupee

Your absolutely right, I keep forgetting I have a camera and video recorder in my pocket, It won't happen again, Or i'm sure it will happen again, it just won't go unreported, Got the number to Wildlife & Fisheries in my phone on speed dial. I wasn't the one threatened, but i would have backed up the person that was if it came down to it. I caught my limit and still didn't want to leave the older gentleman by himself with these two idiots still in the area, but he assured me he was going to be alright. Thanks

People don't care and for reasons unknown, they think they're entitled to do what they want without regard for others. One day they will run into someone that will do more than shake their heads at them and it will be a bad scene. I would have taken a picture of them and their boat number with my phone and told them I was going to report their actions to the Wildlife & Fisheries, you had a witness.

Their IGNORANCE IS EXEMPLIFIED back at the launch...when 'trying' to put boat on trailer---COMPLETELY SUBMERGING THE TRAILER and another moron 'holding the boat in place' while driver pulls up their tow vehicle!!! 'Some people who have a boat---can't spell 'boat' correctly 3 times in a row LET ALONE OWN A BOAT'!!! John Castelluccio, Jr.

Ignorance is curable, stupidity is terminal. The a-hole you are writing about falls into the stupid catagory. I was there too, saw the comotion and was ready to defend.
We were the lucky ones catching a bunch of fish.

Yep,plenty of bad actors all over the place, hurts to have to deal with stupidity and greed and sometimes ya get both in one fell swoop!!!Guess I gotta consider myself either lucky or unlucky depending upon ya perspective as Wifey and I swamped with Medicare Consultations and have buddies whacking and stacking specks like no tomorrow and other buddies shooting plenty of ducks and the limited times I have either fished or duck hunting have been rotten trips!!MY TIME gonna get here pronto, once Dec 8th rolls around and I intend to fish as often as possible and anyone dat has fished wit me recognizes how courteous I am and have even tossed exact lure(s)to folks fishing around me and either struggling catching or catching plenty smallies with few keepers and just common sense and courtesy goes long way.On the other hand, don't crowd me as dat only messes it up for everyone.I almost always very slowly troll up to group of folks catching and leave at least cast and half length between me and other fishers-I can cast quite a long ways, compliments of finely tuned baitcasters and I leave PLENTY space, try it ya might like it!

some my fishing partners-TheWizard7 and John C,excellent soft plastic fishers!!!
