Many will say they would not waist their time shooting the dogs but if that is all you have a man has to do what a man has to do. Let em have it. I am sure I will be doing the same this weekend. Hope to have a couple greys and teal in the mix.

I completely agree. Dogris do not get much respect down south but there is a whole population of duck hunters in the N and NE that live for targeting Bluebills. Given a choice I would rather shoot greys and teal anytime. But if the teal and big ducks are scarce, the dogs will get all the “respect” we can show them. They eat well also, just alter you preparation methods. Good luck to all this weekend.

Take the Dogris breast and put in ziplock with water and some salt overnight. Pat dry before cooking. This will help with the taste. Also, a little extra garlic!!

Steelsprayer,Not sure where ya hunt or where ya live but if ya truly want scaup,Lady P full dem divers, probably saw over 500 headed back to Mandeville from nice Thanksgiving day at my mom's in Kenner.Saw flocks sitting on water, some of those had over 70 scaup per flock and Lake P can be hunted 7 days/week as long as you are anchored and NOT standing on Fountainbleau Park Property, not my kinda hunt but for those eager to target scaup, buffleheads, etc hard to beat, especially if ya have boat blind.Never know, mottled ducks and mallards head to Lake and hit interior ponds on their way back to interior marsh ponds.Good luck and know a few folks that are willing to try 'Yankee' hunting techniques!!!

I hunt the swamp in lower Livingston parish near the Amite river. All we have seen since the opener is hoodies and Woodies and the mergansers outnumber the wood ducks 5 to 1. Be nice to get an 'oddity' every now and then.
