Good Hunts This Weekend

Reply
I had pretty good hunts this weekend. I reported earlier about my successful Hunt/Scout trip Saturday and today had a really good shoot with new friends who purchased my hunt at the New Orleans DU banquet. Oscar and West had a nice hunt with me this morning. We were able to bag a full limit of Greys, Bluebills, Redheads and Buffelhead. The shoot was pretty consistent throughout the morning and it was nice to share the blind with guys who have the same passion for ducks that I do. The NW winds and front did not blow through as hard as I hoped for but there was enough change in weather to move the ducks around in our area even with the lack of hunters and fishermen out this morning. I have openings for next weekend,(last weekend of the first split) and a few spots for the second split as well. Let me know if interested in a hunt or just want to find out more about our Delacroix Duck Hunts. Good luck to all the rest of the season!

Today was “go back to work day” for me after a hard week of chasing ducks. Walking into work I heard the unmistakable call of snow geese. I spotted this flock overhead. This along With an increase in greys and good hunts this past weekend may be good signs of things to come.

Still hearing geese throughout the day on the Northshore. Just get report from a buddy that hunted Delacroix today. He said he saw more duck today than all season. Wish I could break away for a midweek hunt but will have to wait for the weekend. Good luck to all and be careful with the extremely low tides.

I wanted to check in with everyone and see if anyone has hunted the last few days and has seen an increase in the duck population In there area. Seems to be a boost in numbers in the Delacroix area. What about your experience in your area? Hopefully we will get the push we all have been waiting for. Let us know what your seeing in your skies!!! Thanks and good luck to all!

Thanks for the report Dredger. There are some scattered areas throughout the state and where I hunt in Delacroix that are still having success. Although they have not matched what they were 3 years ago I am still doing pretty good this season. Looking forward to the weekend, hard to believe first split is going to end Sunday. Good luck to all his weekend.

Proud Pop,If it does not pick up,at least where I hunt, gonna toss in de towel for the time being at least and spend some time on my deer stand and also fishing. Both of those can't possibly be any worse than what we have been experiencing on NShore.Saw two hunters this am headed back, never a good sign headed back early with zip to show and they said they saw ZERO ducks, other than the ever-present coot colony camped out in Lady P,both near Cane Bayou and all trenasses emptying into Lady P!!!Hope yall get on some and do have Medicare Client wanting to get me down to Venice,he has repair issues with his tricked-out mud boat and we hope to make a trip relatively soon!!!

Proud Pop, Hunted Friday, One other hunter at the launch, extremely low water on the lease ran thru wet mud in a more places than I care to, couldn't set up where I would have like to so settled on a spot with water, few bands of teal buzzing around, not much shooting in the area, water levels slowly increasing during the hunt, ended up with 1 Dogris, 1 Hen Spoon, 1 Blue Wing Teal, dropped 2 in the Lilly's went to find both and it turned into a 45 minute dig out of the mud never found the birds, should have had a limit of Teal wasn't on with the gun today, there are a few more birds in the marsh, Rafts of Coot have moved on. After 08:30 no movement everything shut down, hunted till 10 just to see what may have floated in but that was not the case

Another good hunt this morning. I had the chance to take James and his boys Gabe and Wade. We ended the day with a full limit of 24 ducks. Today?s bag included 12 teal, 10 dogris and 2 buffleheads. We had some good action all morning and the boys were a joy to hunt with. My dad and brother hunted nearby and ended with 12 including 5 greys. As slow as it has been for some, I cannot complain about my hunts this year. These two young boy?s will definitely grow up to be good duck Hunter as they are already good shots and can identify the ducks on the wing and know what they are shooting before they pull the trigger. Tomorrow is the end of the first split. I have a few days open for the second split. Let me know if interested in a hunt or have any questions about the guide service.

Proud Pop,Nice meat haul-heard and saw huge flock of whistlers this am but dey wanted NO part of my spread and we spooked out huge flock of teal(think we need to call NShore Marsh Teal Branch vs Big Branch)!!!Least ya got some shooting in-taking off tomorrow, good thing as older son and grandson had touch of the flu and I was not feeling dat well last night but slept long time(second-to-last day of Medicare Enrollments,worn-out)last night and was OK today.Hope Arkansas freezes up pronto as only salvation,at least for NShore, might be influx of greenheads, never a bad thing!!!Congrats!!

proud pop , glad to see somebody else is having a good first split.. this is the best opening we have had in about 4 years .. Although i couldnt hunt yesterday my buddy on the lease went and shot their 3 man limit of greys !! He said they were everywhere ! and a neighboring lease is busting them up also !! the 21 st cant come soon enough !!!

dredger,Awesome that the greys showed up at your lease.Where we hunt, the feed situation is more than incredible, hard to paddle through the vegetation it is so thick, just not sure when and if the greys gonna grace our marshes. The alarming pattern past 3-7 or so years is exponential reduction in numbers of greys and buddy of mine, happens to be Medicare Client, was lamenting the serious re-distribution of ponds in Big Branch Marsh, might have to call her Teal Branch, the ponds are so dang low and Feds pumped in tons of silt and made much shallower ponds where there used to be deeper ponds perfectly suited for greys and mallards, now they are so shallow with strong N,NW winds blowing, hard to access them and I did find a few routes to take to access some bigger bodies of water!!!

I can?t complain about my first split. Yes I wish my bag included a few more greys than it did but I was able, with a couple of exceptions, to put my friends, family, and guest on some good action this season. We are all hoping that the second split get better with in influx of ducks and there looks to be a few fronts lined up for us during the split. We just need the ducks that come down to stay a while and not just come for a two day visit! I only have a few opening for the rest of the season so let me know if interested in a hunt. Here is a pic of the last sunrise of the first split. Good luck to all the second split. \r\nScott\r\n504-442-0290

Proud Pop,Hard to beat those early am pics and I just texted Bayoubob regarding our plans for this Sat.He is headed to SW Texas Sunday on one dem sand hill crane/duck hunt trips and told him I know of a gent who went on one dem hunts and had a blast. One of our dear Medicare Clients gave me an awesome website,Tides4Fishing.com,and just went to it and somewhat compared it to my usual tide prediction site and it is extremely informative!!Just picked up fine Johnny Morris carbonlite Medium Light baitcast rod with fast action, gonna mate it to new Lew's Mach baitcaster, perfect set-up for marsh bass, specks, smaller reds and hope to nab a few fish and possibly scout for mallards Second Split,Hard to beat them greenheads when they cooperate and might salvage a horrible season via trophy greenheads!!

Man, this weather is sure making me wish I was in the duck blind rather than at work. HopeIng the fronts are sending ducks down for the second half of the coastal zone season. I’m not sure if I will make it out in the marsh this weekend to scout for the second split. If anyone has been out since last weekend or ventures out fishing please send reports of what you are seeing. Good luck to everyone the rest of the season!
