Made de Right Choice 12 5 19

Was debating on whether to try non-existent ducks or take de ole Southfork for a Lady P fishing trip, had low expectations for both choices and glad I opted for fishing trip. Was hoping to get out to Lady P in time to possibly spot some ducks and chatted with two duck hunters headed back to launch, they said they saw zero ducks and told me about coot colony in Lake!!!If duck hunting does not pick up,gonna spend some time in deer stand and fish.Today hit Lady P and she was glassy calm, initially had NE winds but knew they would eventually shift to ENE then SE so I did not spend too much time at Big Bridge, water very dirty there, made executive decision to head to ole stand-by and she did not disappoint me but only emerged with two fish, hooked 3 and released under-sized red(he bit twice as had him hooked lost him and came to about where I hooked him, caught him and noticed fresh hook mark on other side of his head)!!!Saw not a duck in the sky, found immense coot colony and all fish caught on Berkley Gulp,Swimming Mullet,Chartreuse.Did try Bomber Spinner Bait alongside grassbeds and spooked big red lying in thick grass beds, maybe had that NOT happened, mighta been able to sight-cast to it.Water along shorelines pristine, only matter of time before reds pounce on Bombers!!!Hard to beat dat Gulp as well!!!Hoping for better results, fishing as well as duck hunting!!

cycloneman,Yep much better than getting skunked and bottom line is I could have easily nabbed much bigger red,had I not accidentally spooked him, lying in thick grass bed.I tried the Causeway and with better water conditions, have no doubt that there may be some fine reds and specks out there.Did see nice bay boat fishing way N of me and once the water clears up a tad,no reason not to fish the Big Bridge especially since I saw nice report of Thanksgiving day Trestles specks.Hate combat fishing and the Wall and Trestles are notorious for combat fishing.Dat lil Berkley Gulp Chartreuse,Swimming Mullet is one gem, think dat flickering tail and scent draws em in for look-see.Got new Lew's high-speed baitcaster and funniest sight was first lil red-reeled him in so fast he was twirling and spit hook but when I came back to about same spot,he bit again,no doubt as when I released him, noticed fresh hook mark on other side of his head!!!Good luck, might be time to toss in towel regarding miserable duck season!!!

Like he said, didn't get skunked. Hard for me to put down bow or rifle this time of year. Miss Kitti has been laying up in the boat shed since summer - needs to get out.

Deer hunting all next week as front Tuesday should provide some cold weather and movement. Got a fat little doe with my bow and three hogs to date - dXXn hogs have destroyed my pastures AGAIN!

Gave up on ducks.

Good luck to all!!!

Need to dust off crossbow and check deer feeder and game cam-might just have to shut down horrible duck season and concentrate on fishing/deer hunting.Make 61 years young this coming Wed and gonna scope out wind forecast and predicted tidal range and gonna treat self to nice solo fishing trip, some of my best trips happen to be solo trips, reds should hammer Berkley Gulps and Bomber Spinner Baits, probably two de best weapons a fella could have in de arsenal!!!
