Struggles Continue - Bag Heads Show Up

For many years I have posted many pictures of the same guys on the same dock holding handfuls of ducks and pouledeau. We were excited about the prospects of the second split since the aerial survey reported more ducks in the state but our woes continue. Not sure why our area is suffering but it is. Sure we wish we had more duck action but not shooting limits will not detour us from having a good time. We thought a throwback to the bags on the head that were reflective of the Saints of the past having bad football seasons as we are having a bad duck season. All we can hope for is much like our Saints there was always “next season” hopefully we will have ducks “next season”.

Date Hunted: 12/21/2019:

In the rain two boats went out. 0 ducks were shot for the effort. Both boats gave it up around 8:00 to get dried out.

Date Hunted 12/22/2019:

The water came up over night for a tide on the high side. Very cloudy conditions with a real nice breeze out of the north. One of the darkest boat rides out to the blind in a long time, we all guessed right. Real nice conditions for a duck hunt. Two boats went out. We put out 48 decoys, 2 spinners and 4 flickers in our pond. Each blind shot one duck. We shot a dosgris and the other shot a blue winged teal in the picture. That’s it for the day. Stopped hunting at 9:00am.

Some guys we know hunt in SE Louisiana shot some limits over the weekend so not everyone is struggling as we are. Happy to hear some are having success.

Merry Christmas to everyone and happy hunting.

That sucks …… but one of the best pictures I've seen in a while!

Hunted a public lake in SE LA. Plenty ducks flying around on Saturday. Boat trouble had us miss out on most of the opportunities so we ended with 5 ring necks and one dos gris. Sunday not much flying and we ended with no ducks.

That is a great pic for the camp. Looks like hunting is feast or famine-with famine being the more frequent for most and the ones doing well ain’t talking lol. Hard to figure out them ducks-same place two different days and one day 1-3 and next day limit in 10 minutes. Overall it has been slowest season I have experienced. Very unusual not even seeing high flying migration. They are not in rice fields of south central La. at least areas I travel.
did hear first flock of Canada geese this weekend and awesome sight of whooping cranes. Already thinking about turkey hunting.

Delta Duckman,Just got off the phone with TheWizard7 and he jokingly mentioned this post and gotta have a good sense of humor or this duck season gonna drive ya nuts and for me dat is very short drive!!!Was gonna fish with a buddy but got text from him saying he was getting rain in Covington and here in Mandeville where I live the sky was clear as a bell.Me and younger son took all my duck gear outta flatboat(need to LEAVE it outta flatboat, hint, hint)and we took flatboat to T-Funky and water was extremely dirty, guess two days of steady rains stirred her up and very luckily caught exactly one bass and we put his azz on ice!!!Might try my Honey Island woodies tomorrow am as dat only burns max of three hours and will be home by bout 8:15 am at latest and who knows, might just end up with a few woodies, one of best-eaters out there.Good luck, gonna hit deer stand hard til I start seeing reports of local ducks as some folks in Delly doing well, some not so well and I do NOT have a lease anywhere, used to have Delly lease, had one in Hopeless Dale and got rid of both, though the Delly lease got taken from me,guess de landowner got lot more money for it vs what I was paying.Do have a Medicare Client with all the hook-ups ya could want in Venice and hoping to get invite to thin out the thick flocks of pintails down there!!!Been every bit as frustrated as you, check out the incredible blind that I hunted just yesterday.Think it was so well-hidden dem duck could NOT find me!!!

Mandevillian, every bit as hard-core as ya gonna find
