Boy not many places still have rabbits. Most WMA’s have matured where they have little to no briars to hold rabbits coupled with high coyote populations. Rabbits are extremely rare on WMA’s I hunt. I’ve seen 1 rabbit all season where I used to see probably 50 to 100 or more. Most every WMA I go to that is not Marsh has plenty squirrels.

Depends on where you located and where/how far you willing to travel and if you have a place to stay somewhere. All the WMA’s and refuges along the river basin are great. The Red River/Three Rivers complex aka Richard Yancey. Bayou Cocodrie, Buck Horn, Big Lake, Sherburne just to name a few. Get your hunting book out and look at WMA’s in your region and go try. I recommend not going while deer season open but before and after. Most deer seasons are closed or closing soon. Also some places if along river subject to flooding so look at hydrograph for that particular place before going. No better way to learn a place than put a couple miles under foot squirrel hunting. Also try to hunt a different section each time to learn places, by doing this you’ll often stumble upon honey holes for deer, hogs, wood ducks and squirrels.

Sweet! Thank you for the advice! I’ll definitely give it a try. I appreciate the insight and wish you luck on many more hunts to come.
