Don’t need any bait!!!

Went out this morning for a couple of trout to cook up for lunch , fog was thick but managed to make it out, tried a new area today used my painted plugs and got right on a great bite , let go all big trout before winds picked up and didn’t wanna fight waves and wind so made a run too a bayou that’s been good in the past, using soft plastic on bottom was catching a trout on almost every cast , had few doubles, kept 5 trout for lunch and released quite a few to fight another day, was a great day of fighting trout and watching them swim off . 🧙‍♂️🎣

Nice pics,Wiz,bet ya love dat new cell phone with fine camera!!Buddy,Dane, and I have an executive decision to make regarding our fishing trip planned for this Wed-do we fish the possibly crowded Wall or possibly try de St.Bernard Marsh???Guess we will check the predicted weather and also check tidal predictions, then make de call.I told Dane I gots lots of hard plastics, none exactly like de Wiz's custom-painted hard plastics but have plenty, plenty hard plastics and ordered some nice containers to keep em from getting rusted.Let ya know what we decide as we get closer to Wed!!

Wiz,

Love seeing those pictures with the plugs. Rudy Grigar an old plug fisherman from Texas who later fished out of the Chandeleurs would have like seeing you posting all of those pics. He used to make his own plugs out of old tooth brushes & other items. Good book about him called “Plugger: Wade fishing the Gulf Coast”. It’s a good read if you want something to do on the days when the weather won’t let you get out on the water.

Will try the plug approach here in NC in some of the tidal creeks & bays just south of Wilmington at the beginning of March. I’ll let you know how it goes. Can I PM you here on the Louisiana Sportsman forum for some contact information?

Thanks for the great info & for setting the example with the conservation efforts to preserve & improve the fishery!

Rockachaw,I was toying around with making my own wooden lures and even have one ready to paint and attach hooks to and was playing around on You Tube and watched plenty of fine DIY videos and in one,guy took wooden paint brush and made incredible wooden plug and the paint schemes run the gamut, limited only by one's imagination.Like I have mentioned,Jann's Netcraft is an incredible source of DIY items more than one would need to make some unique,never-seen-before lures(hint, hint, hint)!!!

Wiz,

Glad you like what you read so far online. The book is good. I’ll send a video link of a story about Rudy Grigar fishing out at the Chandeleur Islands. Also - I got the PM - thanks!

Mandevillian,

Thanks for the info on Jann’s Netcraft. Also, if you get good at making plugs - make sure you let me get first shot at purchasing one.

Will send the Grigar link later.

Regards,

Here’s the link for the video from 1975. Check out his old classic Boston Whaler. I grew up fishing in an old Outrage 21 just like that with my dad & brothers & sisters. It had twin 85 Mercury outboards that were very often in the shop for repair!!

Thanks,Rockachaw,do have one lure I fashioned outta cypress blank I picked up free, free, free from Acadian Cypress in Ponchatoula-quite a few years ago attended very informative lure-making class put on at Fairview Riverside Park near Mandeville and the gent putting it on was excellent instructor.Bought nice airbrush set up just gotta dig out dem lures and found very neat way to custom shrink-wrap template for stencil.Wiz,just picked up two very fine Yo-Zuri Twitchbaits,Slow-Sinkers,both in very fine chartreuse with prism finish.Might water-test dem this Wed and got plenty of glass rattle chambers(Jann's Netcraft)that I could add to soft or hard plastics for extra-attracting AND custom lures like NONE other!!!Love tossing either hand-fashioned OR custom lures dat CAN'T be store-bought!!!

P.S. Chatted with none other than Gary Palermo, the gent who works part-time and Hook and Line in Chalmette and he was NOT there when ya last visited store! He stopped by the Ponchatoula Wal Mart kiosk today!!
