Duck Season End is Near

Reply

Well guys, the end of the coastal zone duck season is quickly approaching. Sunday at sunset will end a season that was filled with mixed results. I can not complain about the beginning and middle of my season however that past couple of hunts have slowed down a bit. There are still a few ducks around and we will get after them as hard this last weekend as we did on opening weekend back in early November. Looks like another warm week ahead with highs in mid to upper 70’s. Not exactly January duck weather. Good luck to all for the remainder of the season and stay safe on the water!

Proud Pop,Gotta applaud not only your honesty but also your dedication when yet another bleak season was happening to most,if not all of us!Have gotten some incredible duck pics, mostly from LA,from young gun who has seemingly mastered the Venice area and just yesterday got pics from him from much closer to home and they had very nice mix of ducks, ring necks, greys, mottled ducks, etc. There are ducks in specific areas just not nearly what we expected(I suspected yet another weak season, three consecutive for me)and poor GB3 got hit with severe tornadoes but even dat did not put a damper on his attitude and he hunted yesterday, know he had at least a speckled-belly to show for his efforts and he is giving me some cleaned and iced-down goose and duck breast as he had to clean out freezer as power won't be restored for at least a few weeks up in SE Arkansas. What a gem of a guy and truly feel blessed to have met him and coincidence of all coincidences,he attended recent Delta Waterfowl Banquet and showed Wifey video footage of de ole Mandevillian and Wifey at dat Banquet.Looks like my Honey Island Woodie trips gonna have to wait til Pearl River recedes a tad and last check of Pearl River Gauge at Pearl River showed it to be about 16.2 ft and closure of ole Hwy 11 occurs at 16.5 ft so probably locked gate gonna await hunters hitting dat fine Swamp-bet there are plenty more woodies just around some dem bends in numerous cypress-laden bayous!!!Turkey Lottery coming up,crawfish season almost here and might check out Jann's Netcraft for nice book on net-making.I did teach self how to make nets but want to see what their book suggests!!!Thanks again and hope Bayoubob,GB3,and I destroy some geese, pintails, mallards, etc in few weeks!!!

Mandevillian,probably fishing this Wed!!!

Over in the Amite river swamp, if it wasn't for the lowly hooded merganser, we would have been a complete bust this season. One wood duck drake all season and a bunch of hoodies. I'm even wishing for pouledoo these days.

Steelsprayer,My favorite Woodie spots have recently gotten shut down due to extremely high Pearl River water levels, currently shade over 17 ft!!!Can't wait to hit Arkansas later this month!!
