Might wanna stay in Ozarks, just kidding.Have not had any reasonable chance to fish salt water and if the Corps opens Bonnet Carre Spillway yet again,we all in LA might need to seek another type of trout, the Ozarks rainbow trout!!Surely some Sportsman will let ya know bout fine Grand Isle specks and did see where Tommy Vidrine nabbed huge speck on Overcast soft plastic, but dat was in November,December I believe.Good luck and hope ya nab a bunch of big azz specks and reds as well!

Not sure how opening the Bonnet Carre spillway is going to tank the fishing in Grand Isle since it dumps Mississippi River water into Lake Pontchartrain making it fresh and muddy and eventually freshening and muddying water East of the Mississippi, many miles from Grand Isle.

Grand Isle fishing in December was very good during our trip there, but we target mostly bull redfish and drum. I expect cracked crab on the bottom to produce well all winter. Things were more hit and miss for the guys chasing speckled trout. The fish are always around GI somewhere, but there are times when finding the trout requires more experience and skill.

Dat comment was tad sarcastic so take it for what it is worth. I do not believe those folks are targeting nasty black drum or huge bull reds think their target species is specks. Bonnet Carre Spillway water does indeed invade lot of Pontchartrain Basin and bet the Four Bayous Pass area receives more than its fair share of nasty River water. The BP spill did quite a number on Grand Isle,no one can dispute that. Have a great trip to Grand Isle and check out some of Tommy Vidrine’s You Tube videos.

Thanks for the reply. We will mainly be targeting specks and reds, but we are bringing surf gear for bull reds and big uglies too.

Good luck getting ready to write report for today’s Causeway fishing trip no big uglies but nice blue catfish. Probably harbinger of Spring Fishing in Poncthartrain Basin.

Ya might even want to venture towards the Slidell area and possibly fish the Trestles as plenty folks trying their luck both trolling(not my cup of tea)or finesse fishing(pun intended as Fin-S is name of ridiculously effective soft plastics). Missed at least 20 fish hooked 10,not counting under-sized red and biggest speck was a hammer slightly over 21.5 inches and 3.68 lbs(digital scale)🎩🎣🐠

Hit Pearl,MS Bass Pro,picked up new baitcasting rod plus found some find Shad swimbait that look incredible and rigged with weighted swim bait hooks might just entice quite a riot at dem Trestles. Did not see Do It mold to make ring-shanked jig heads but found nice weighted hooks similar to what one would use fishing bass swimbaits and bet the weighted hooks plus ultra-realistic swimbaits nab some fat and sassy specks. Can’t wait to get Lunker City lures in a s did order slightly bigger Shakers in 4 inch version(big bait, big fish🎣🐠)Looks like Wifey and I gonna hit Trestles this coming Sun hope to at least replicate success of this past Th🎩👍🎣🐠
