Crabs in Bayou Sorrel

Reply

I moved down here to go to school and married a lady from down here. Not overly familiar with saltwater fishing but grew up fishing freshwater everyday. I was jugging the other night on Bayou Sorrel and caught what my partner called a “gafftopsail” catfish. Strangest looking catfish I’ve ever seen. He said it wasn’t unusual to catch them. Then he mentioned that he has seen crabs in Bayou Sorrel as well. I couldn’t believe it. I dipped my hand in the water and tasted some, tasted sweet to me. Was he pulling my leg? If not, how far north do those crabs go?

I have seen them at the blind river boat launch by airline hwy......When the river goes thru locks best crab fishing in spillway afterwards...Have caught them in ponds they migrated to while the river was coming thru by the first track from river....evidently they like the river water....

Best crabs you will ever eat however not a reliable source. Hurricanes seemed to have caused the decline.
