Tip of de T-Funky Iceberg Part II 3 14 2020

Older son sells eggs and other neat home-grown items at Mandeville Farmer Market and awaited his return from a very successful day today and we hit our favorite stretch of de T-Funky this afternoon and we both sought slabs with him nabbing 5 and I managed just one but a fattie right around .88 lb!!He was tight-lining and schooled ole dad today and I tried both tight-lining(only after trying popping cork)and thankfully nabbed big ole slab.We use only soft plastics and I was tipping the soft plastics with Chartreuse Crappie Psychic trailers,think dat makes big difference.Of the 6 sac a lait,three had eggs and the spawn should be about on!!!Had fun fishing ole-school with each of us fishing outta Chapman pirogues.Did have lotta boat traffic on T-Funky and blue and black and chartreuse tube jigs did de deed!!He was ecstatic and wants to head back pronto.Got some gardening work to tend to tomorrow and we have ton of heirloom tomato plants we started from seeds and with the addition of 10 by 20 greenhouse,seeds sprouted extremely well and seems like they grow an inch/day!!!Gonna be extra-nice to start fine plants,all from seeds and we have plenty room for growing tomatoes in winter!!!Gotta love dem home-grown tomatoes and the heirloom species we grow are incredibly delicious and impossible to find in grocery stores(varieties like Cherokee Purple,Purple Russian,Bradywine Red,Pink,Yellow,Black and Black Krim,Chocolate Cherry,Box Car Willie,etc).Older son convinced me to order some fine watermelon seeds,again varieties not readily found in local grocery stores!!!Lotta fun and extremely rewarding to watch plants sprout and older son might sell a few at Farmer Market.Guess the other neat development was that he caught nice swarm of honey bees this past week!!!

JigRig,Yep de T-Funky certainly is a gem and we seem to be nabbing some chunks,not a lot of fish but hefty ones and I am slowly starting to get much more comfortable with deep-jigging and NOT using a cork.What sold me was that my older son was fishing one side of a slough and I was on opposite side(always seem to nab some big ones on side I was on)and he had four to my zero and the only thing he was doing differently was that he was deep-jigging and I was cork fishing.About 2-3 years ago was fishing exact same spot and there was a gent in neat pontoon-style boat and I was in SouthFork and was going along nice cypress-knee studded bank(like just about all dem sloughs!)and I caught two on almost back to back flips with Slab Daddy Pole and showed this gent the fish,went back jigging same general area,watched cork submerge like it had anchor attached to it and finally wrestled out HUGE slab that I conservatively estimated to be 3-3.5 lbs,biggest one I have ever seen,unfortunately while getting this beast freed from stump mine-field,he came flying outta T-Funky and my gut instinct was to use net but I did not and watched HUGE slab slap against port side of SouthFork and bounce free!!!Told gent and he saw the mini-monsters I had and we both about wanted to cry!!!Yep,love me some T-Funky slabs and I NEVER use anything more exotic than soft plastics and saw neat You-Tube video of way to fashion weedguards on jigheads and just picked up a few-plenty of deep-holes more than likely loaded up with plenty,I prefer to seek the biguns!!!

Wifey and I saw how fine de ole T-Funky currently is this am on our way across her on de way to our Ponchatoula Wal Mart Medicare kiosk and I just had to pick up a few incredibly realistic Crème Spoiler Shad swimming baits(these jewels look exactly like what is swimming in T-Funky right now)and she and I gonna seek some saltier fish tomorrow(based upon both my last Bayou Lacombe fishing trip and recent Hydrocoast Map).Gonna try tight-lining some of these gems and based upon last few T-Funky trips,bet some serious slabs gonna start hitting boxes and my personal goal is to nab some close to 3-3.5 lbs,know they in there as I lost one that big few years ago!!!Had tournament bass fisherman tell older son and I where to seek chunks but NOT in T-Funky.We love T-Funky as she is so pretty and close to home and typically rewards us with 6-8 CHUNKS!!!
