Heavy Duty Aluminum Hulls

Reply
Anyone have any reviews on Rockwell-AlumaFab out of Chalmette (St. Bernard) ? Have always run a Hanko or Scully and would like to know if Rockwell - Alumafab is of the same superior construction. I appreciate the assistance. Photos welcomed. Thanks,

I personally have a Tim's custom flat, but wouldn't hesitate at all to buy an Alumafab(Rockwell). Two of my friends have 18-20ft center console models from him. Very heavy duty boats. I hunted in a lease with Warren about 12 years ago, he is very detail oriented person.

Is he back open? I know he stopped after Katrina. Didn't know he was up and running again. Man if he is I would not hesitate. Very solid boats. He can be a little quirky himself, but makes a really solid boat, or anything out of aluminum for that matter. Made several boats for me back in the '90s, I regret to this day every selling them.

Saw a gent with an aluminum barge this past Tues, not sure who manufactured his hull but it looked like a Sherman tank, bet either Rockwell or Skully's manufactured his hull.Have heard nothing but awesome reviews from folks that had Rockwell hulls-if he is back in business bet ya can't beat the quality.Gravois makes some incredibly well-built hulls, used to head to Grand Isle every year around May,June time-frame and chatted with guide who uses exclusively Gravois hulls and they look incredibly well-built.Think Gravois mighty proud of dem hulls, beware!!

Just a thought, just remembered meeting an aluminum welder who custom-builds heavy-duty boats locally,Matt Hardee(985)773-8146.I met Matt probably well over a year ago and he did some incredible custom-fabrication and repair work for a buddy of mine and he built custom boat for a guy and I saw the finished product and it was incredible the quality of his work.Should I ever need any aluminum welding done,no doubt who I plan to contact.Matt and I were networking for both Delta Waterfowl and CCA and once things get somewhat back to normal,I plan to give Matt a shout.Who knows,by then I may need some custom aluminum fabrication!!

Here’s a pic of an 18x60 Rockwell made for me back in the ‘90s. Photo is circa 2004. I sold it shortly thereafter. Was not fancy but tough as nails

Dey aint gotta be fancy just functional!!Few of my duck hunting Mafia have 18 by 60's but not Rockwell boats!Used to hunt on Delacroix lease with gent who had Tim's flat, think it was 16 by 48 or 52.My SouthFork 16 by 52 and she gets shoved by very strong Johnson 50!!Bet ya wished ya still had dat rig, perfect for not only duck hunting but chasing reds in Lady P!!

I do miss my flat boats. Only thing I'd say is that one had 18 inch sides and was a perfect marsh boat. If your looking for something to go out in the bigger bays or even the outside, you'd be much better off with 24 inch sides and maybe even the addition of a V bow

Actually, older son and I built 20 ft Atchafalya Lake Basin wooden skiff just never finished the epoxy work on inner and exterior surfaces but she has been safely tucked under nice cover and told self one of my goals is to get back to work on her and at least started the process by purchasing gallon of West System epoxy and she gonna take many gallons. That skiff would be ideal to fish Rocks and most other places and has very high sides not exactly how high. Also have tank of 16 ft Manatee Tri-Hull dat we used to fish Hopedale with over 25 years or so ago. Never forget time my
dad and I launched her at Pip’s and ended up in Reggio area and very nice commercial crabber let us follow him back to launch🍀😜👍😎

Bay Flat Sr, takes a licking and keeps on clicking, had her since 2005. She be the best boat me ever owned, only downside is open water when it be choppy. Pound away, don't hurt her any, but you will feel every bit of her hitting the waves.

Good Fishing

Pack,Very nice flat looks like Tim's Custom flat and I know they are built like tanks. My SouthFork been through lotta rough seas, got her all fixed up and just about completely re-did her and the foam flotation I changed out in exchange for new flotation really made huge difference and the entire inner surfaces coated with probably one of the best aliphatic coatings on the market,Grizzly Grip.Dat stuff sticks(assuming ya thoroughly prep the surfaces). She is 1999 model, definitely looks much younger as I painted the outer surfaces and camo-stenciled her for duck hunting and completely stripped off the previous Grizzly Grip coating(was quite a chore)and she does NOT leak a single drop.Re-did trailer and used Trex composite wood for runners and been over a year and dat stuff most likely gonna outlive me!!

Late follow up guys, but I did end up purchasing a 21’ CC Alumafab and am MORE than pleased. Was a great decision and it seems like a floating tank. I appreciate the feed back. Have a good one!

I have a 2004 18.60 Tim's Custom Flat w/ Fantail. Hands down the best all around boat out there. I am running a 90hp 2-stroke now. When the time comes i plan to put a Yamaha F90 on it. Boat tops out a 39mph, cruise at 30-34. Good enough for me.Good luck with your pick.

Delta Duckman,Very nice-looking hull.GB3 has a very big Alumacraft,20 by 72 and his boat would be IDEAL for hitting Venice.I hope to be able to convince a Medicare Client of mine, owns 2 camps down there,to get us on some ducks.Know full-well dat CERTAIN parts of Venice treated those who paid their dues(scouting, scouting, scouting some more)extremely well and did see that some folks shot some Black-Bellied Whistlers in regular duck season.Where Bayoubob and I hunted,we did see a few huge flocks of dem whistlers, hope to nab a few!!!

Man I sure wish we were building by now. Unfortunately we just haven’t found how to fit it in with fabrication and set ups. If y’all are ever in the lafayette area and need some aluminum fab and/ or prop work, come check us out. Acadiana Propeller & Fabrication. Been trying to get my hands on a nice Hanko for a while now, but gotta convince the wife of the price.
