Not sure if ya got the unit similar to mine but sounds like ya did not get Navionics chip and mine is Hook 2-5 Tripleshot preloaded with base maps and came with one year subscription for Navionics updates.Love my unit, screen a tad small but was what I wanted as my flatboat is not that big,16 by 52 and I actually had to send my unit back as it was not reading depths and $230.99 later, got new unit and LOVE it!!Lotta folks have units that accept the mapping cards put out by Standard and mine does not and not an issue as I always have I-Phone with me and GPS is extremely accurate.Use her for duck hunting trips and been tinkering with sidescan and down scan.Definitely a learning curve and buddy of mine turned me onto excellent You Tube Channel,Fish the Moment. This young fellow an expert at electronics-check out his channel, might learn some neat tricks to decoding your unit!!

Hook 2 is garbage. It doesn't take satellite imagery. It will take Navionics- but that is garbage also if you mostly fish coastal plains. Sell it, take a loss, and buy an Elite TI (not the TI2) with the triple shot and then buy a map card or make your own for free. You will be surprised how much better it is and it cost less.

If I was willing to spend lots more money, I would have done that in the first place. Some of us are on limited budgets.

It did not occur to me that they'd make a GPS without maps.

blackfishmatt,Guess next time Math Geek and I each take our boats out,we got great anchors-toss out 'garbage' overboard.Love my Hook2-5 with TripleShot and Lowrance folks were accommodating, though I was a tad peevd that my unit went S and had to be sent back.Maybe I got lucky but my unit has been extremely accurate-guess I need to toss it overboard!

Not bashing here. If ya like what ya got then I am happy for you. Just letting people know there are way better options to help them in their fishing trips. Hook2 models are priced lower because Lowrance excluded a lot of bells and whistles that most of the other models offer. I had a Hook2 and it worked great for fish finding. But it was horrible for GPS imaging. Sold it and got an Elite TI (not the TI2). Acquired an image card and now I am in business. Price difference of $45.00. I uploaded 2 pictures of a spot that I fish a lot. First one is what an Elite shows. The second is what a Hook2 shows. What would you rather see on your unit?

Same here. Bought the Hook for the yak and good for looking for fish and bottom but not for mapping. Sold the yak and decided to junk the Hook for an Elite 5 DSI for the Alweld. Its a great improvement and also will accept Capt. Paul's Edge files as well on a micro card once downloaded.

Here is extremely ridiculously simple solution-use I-Phone for the Google Maps(Bayoubob and I do that all the time)and any PRUDENT boater uses more than one aid to navigation.Blackfishmat,Not sure how ya can claim ya did NOT bash the unit and bash Navionics but that is your call.I happen to love the Community Edits feature Navionics offers and when I got my Hook2-5,checked out the map once I downloaded the latest Edits and noted quite a few landmarks, including the 3 wells in Lacombe area plus noted obstructions(how can that possibly be garbage my friend)and they are constantly updating their charts.Guess we can't all be 'Elitists'(pun intended)

P.S. The Reefs in Lady P were ALSO incuded with the Navionics chart card
