Sight Casting A Few Rats In Dirty Water

I haven’t fished Delacroix in quite some time so that was my purpose this morning. I wanted to explore an area that has been on my radar for a few months now. When I got there I found stagnant dirty water and I am not sure why. Dirty by Delacroix standards but still fishable. After about an hour with no luck, I started fishing the broken marsh towards the direction of the launch. I was able to find semi clean pockets here and there but still no gin clear spots. I plowed into a grass bed that had a lot of activity. Once I got close enough I realized it was mostly mullet but I did see a few tails of reds. I couldn’t get any to strike my weed less fluke so I switched over to a gold spoon. Second cast and nice little rat. A few more casts and no takers. I then came up on something moving about 30 yds ahead of me. Made my cast and the line got tangled so my cast was not very accurate. Whatever it was it decided to move on and left a nice wake. Probably a big gar or alligator but I was in 18” of water and still couldn’t see what it was. I then pulled up to a flat that also had a lot of activity and was able to land 2 more rats on a weed less jig head with a Texas Roach. A few casts later and I hooked up with a nice slot but he soon spit the hook and left me hanging. I guess that’s why it’s called fishing. Here’s a few highlights and lowlights.
