My 2000 Yamaha 150 VMAX has developed a light rattling or knocking sound. This engine was rebuilt a few years ago so it's not exactly a 20 year old motor.

The motor is probably close to not being worth what it may take to fix it but definitely the cheaper of my options.

Any recommendations for a mechanic or business that can diagnosis/repair?

Thanks y'all!

This may not be the issues with yours but my father in law has same motor but 04 an the caps on fuel pumps came loose an were causing a rattle/ jingle sound to even a knock while running. Tighten up the screws an never herd it again. Been about a year since we found it.

I don’t remember them being loose when I looked the motor over but will certainly check them closely.

Thanks for the input!

You can check them with screw driver but also make sure gaskets aren't leaking. Prime the bulb with cover off an look around the pumps. I check mine regular now by priming till it gets really hard.

Fuel pumps and screws are rock solid. So is everything else under the cowl.

Pretty sure it’s something inside the motor.

Still needing recommendations for reliable mechanic.

Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendation!\r\n\r\nI?m in the Baton Rouge area. \r\n\r\nThe last time I had it worked on was down around the Des Allemand area so I don?t mind traveling a bit. I won?t be bring it back there though. They damaged my boat and carpet while it was there for repair plus three years later I?m looking to repair the same motor again.
