Cane Bayou Pay? Launch 7 10 2020

Kinda suspected this was gonna happen and today Wifey and I were headed back home from a ride to Slidell and while she was driving past the entrance to the formerly free public launch,I noticed a sign that looked like it was indicating a fee had been levied to use what was formerly a free launch and best thing is charge is per person(???)Not sure how this transpired but can MOST definitely tell folks dat I will NOT be using this rudimentary launch ANY MORE,even after I turn 62,when the fee drops to what it should be,ZERO.It is NOT the price that has me irked just the principle that NOW folks have to pay an access fee when Cane Bayou should be a public waterway and the Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge is just to the East of Cane Bayou and there is NO charge to enter Big Branch for bird watching, hunting, etc. Not sure how this transpired but again will NEVER use this launch and it gets ridiculously crowded vs the free and public launches one can EASILY access. Thanks to whoever caused this me$$.Tried to attach pic but was having issues and all one has to do is to drive to the Cane Bayou launch and see for themselves what has happened, terrible thing to charge for such a dirt launch with what-portolet for amenities.Guess if there was a real bathroom with running water, etc one could POSSIBLY fathom paying an access fee but gimme a break,$3 per person and folks 62 and up free-I make 62 soon enough and WON'T use dat launch EVER again!!Guess we can thank Billy Nungesser for this foolishness, trust me,has his name all OVER it!!Hope other folks likewise boycott this launch and if not,so be it!!

This sounds like a scam lol Just wondering is there someone there collecting the money or is it on the honor system. I am not down that way much anymore but know where it is.

I have not been there in a few years but my wife and I love Cane. It is a beautiful little spot.
The last time we were there it seemed as though some commercial kayak rental place had taken it over. A multitiered trailer was in the parking lot and yakers were all up and down the bayou.
That would at least make sense for a $/head type price but it is a rather primitive launch. Make some improvements and then charge.

Here comes another trial of attaching pic I took yesterday. There is a honor box and when I launch at Bayou Liberty(GLADLY pay $7 even though the roads out there in HORRENDOUS shape)I put my launch fee in an envelope with my name and date on it just to prove dat I paid my launch fee.Not sure how dey gonna enforce this fee, totally ridiculous to charge PER person, and like I said,WON'T be launching there, even after I turn 62!!!Makes NO sense,UNLESS amenities like bait,fish-cleaning station, running water, etc was added and all ya gots out there is Bayou Adventure Travel trailer and Porta-Let!!!

PS.Pic would not attach, maybe will try later!!!Guess folks can ride out there to see it close and personal!!!

Whoever dares to do dat better be aware dat no doubt there are cameras out there to 'keep' folks honest.Had serious water leak at elbow joint leading from our Artesian well to house and after brief T-Funky(free,free,free)launch and short fishing trip, stopped at Steve's Ace Hardware not that far from 3 Rivers Rd and guy who waited on me used to yak fish a tremendous amount and FORGOT to tell him bout the ridiculous fee.He has some pinched nerves in his neck and has not fished in a while, know dat gotta be killing him and next time I see him will let him know and also bet he gets in touch with legion of yak fishermen to let em know!!!Word gonna travel pronto!!!

I was curious so I looked at onx app and it shows that area at the boat launch is under the state park there. So I would assume they would know something about it. lol not that they are keeping that launch up very well.

I hear you there and don't blame you. The age thing makes no sense with no one at the launch collecting the fee even with cameras if they have them they cannot tell how old you are that's why it seems like one big scam... When I hunt big branch I always launch off of lake rd anyway.

Re: Cane Bayou Pay? Launch 7 10 2020
nutsabtfishingFunny ya mention accessing Big Branch for hunting via Lake Rd launches, think lotta my duck Mafia already has boycotted dat dirt ramp and lots of die-hards launch at launches BESIDES Cane Bayou. We have noticed significant and precipitous decline in duck populations in the Western portion of Big Branch and NOW have even more reasons to launch elsewhere!!!Lots of hunters USED to use launch and if they return,no sweat off my back just wanted folks to know dey better have some cash on hand for launch fee.

I don't fish over there very often but I did grow up in that area years ago. Not sure if that is private or public property or not. The box appears to be state park related. I can understand if its related to the state park to charge a few dollars to launch. But at least improve the launch a bit. Just wear a mask and don't pay. If you are confronted tell them you went public school in LA but never learned how to read. But then why is it free to launch at other wildlife management areas? A lot of fishing related work is going on along Island Road in Point Aux Chenes. That whole area is free. Maybe they are going to start charging money over there now?

Here is what makes ZERO sense,at least to me. Fountainbleau State Park,to the W of Cane Bayou probably does charge an access fee to use their grounds and not sure why a person who most likely is gonna access public Lake Pontchartrain and NOT access Fountainbleau property has to pay a fee. Paddle down Cane Bayou and look at the signs that indicate one is not to enter Fountainbleau via Cane Bayou but via entrance off Hwy 190 and see if it makes sense to you. Besides that issue,a well-established and extremely popular canoe and trail company,Canoe and Trail, was forced out of Cane Bayou in favor of a less-well established organization,Bayou Adventures, and not sure how ethical/legal that maneuver was. I personally know and respect both Byron and Chad Almquist, the folks that run Canoe and Trail and they have been forced to head to another launch to launch their fleet of canoes and kayaks. NOW,ya know the REST of the story and know WHY I personally will boycott this dirt ramp🎩

Well, well, kinda knew this was gonna happen and good news is dat my Medicare Client(St.Jane de Chantal church member)advised just today that he received a ticket on his windshield, was NOT aware that Cane Bayou has started charging a fee per person to launch and he was very fortunate that whoever issued him the ticket happened to be at the launch when he came back from a fishing trip and all he had to do was to show proof that he is at least 62 years of age, what a pain in the rear and I told him I REFUSE to launch there, will go outta my way to launch elsewhere, even after I turn the ripe ole age of 62 in mid December of this year!!!Not sure how he felt about seeing his vehicle ticketed and he was actually lucky to get the issue resolved on-the-spot and I am pretty sure the officer who issued the ticket was asking him how he wanted to pay the fine(not sure what the fine is)and once his age was divuldged,no fine COULD be levied!!!Word to the wise, folks are patrolling this launch!!

Did your friend say if the officer was a civil, state, or federal authority? Like St Tammany, Fountainbleau, or Big Branch?

ogre01,No,I did not ask but my suspicion was that it was a Park Ranger as that launch NOW is called Fountainbleau Launch, gimme a break, folks that use it MORE than likely DO NOT access Fountainbleau Property!!

Guess my new moniker gonna be 'Evinrude in de Cess Pool' especially after today's chore of replacing blown-out sump pump in our septic tank!Wifey and I found out, late last night, dat de sump pump on our septic system went out,NEVER a fun chore replacing it but this time we went to Lowe's in Covington and got a sewage pump,MUCH better than what we had been using and my analogy is quite appropriate as I NEVER mind being the out-spoken one and this Cane Bayou Pay? Launch really gets under my skin and today,Wifey and I chatted with a gent VERY close to the situation and he advised that the monies collected go into a GENERAL FUND,NO guarantee that even ONE RED CENT of the Cane Bayou's launch fee$ gonna go to Fountainbleau State Park and EVEN better, while we were out and about, getting supplies to replace sump pump and supplies for sanding and repainting Johnson outboard(made by EVINRUDE),I chatted with very avid yak gentleman and he was NOT pleased upon hearing of fee impo$ed on folk$ using Cane Bayou($ for emphasis!!).He used to use Cane about exclusively and due to medical situation he has,is unable to do much in way of fishing but he certainly can likewise be the 'Evinrude in de Cess Pool'!!!Funny thing is Wifey and I literally had to 'stir up de poo poo' in our septic system as it needs to be pumped down and the strong sewage pump did an awesome job of pumping out plenty of sludge at bottom of septic system!!!Read em and weep, folks, extortion at Cane Bayou Launch and hope the message gets across to many folks and dey make whatever decision fits them!!!

Yep,Think what I might do is to purposely wait til I make 62 then deposit some Mardi Gras doubloons into envelope and be done with dat launch. Yesterday’s chore was certainly unpleasant but we persevered and got de job done now have extra-strong pump pumping out de “poo poo”and now I can get back to getting outboard ready for paint job still have to contend with getting out to my Kubota tractor to remove/replace steering gear box😬
