For the past month and a half I just can’t seem to catch any slot reds. On this trip I was back in Delacroix to explore some deeper holes that I had heard about. I even brought my depth finder (which is useless in Delacroix) since I made a route to the spots I wanted to fish. When I got to the holes, the water was very dirty, stagnant and not as deep as expected. There was nothing but gar hanging out.
I soon switched over to plan B: work the edges of grass beds with a weed less Texas Roach and an in line spinner. I wound up pulling in 7 reds in the 15-19” range. I also temporarily hooked a couple that might have been in the 20-23” range but they quickly threw the hook back at me. Nonetheless it was still a fun trip and hopefully I will start catching a few slots soon.
Here’s a few highlights and lowlights.
