Got Hopedale trip set for tomorrow,weather-permitting,and was itching to get back to ole-school roots, plus hit plentiful and bountiful slabs and bass on T-Funky and got very early start, well before daybreak and hit fish magnet(she has yet to let me down)and spotted plenty of HUGE sac a lait, trouble was they wanted NO part of Spoiler Shad(guess I shoulda kept de lid on dat SECRET lure)but did manage to nab fat one, first fish of de day, followed up by much smaller one and I could see em chasing down Spoiler Shad only to turn away at last minute(lot like White River rainbows dat REALLY want live minnows, crawfish, etc)but I am dyed-in-de-wool lure fisherman(anyone CAN and SHOULD catch a fish with a fish, not my cup o tea).Did miss a few slabs that seemed to spit out Spoiler Shad, changed venue and started tossing Zoom Speed Worms, nabbed feisty and fine Kentucky bass, then watched line take off right as I cast to base of huge cypress tree(lotta lunkers lurk at bases of cypress trees)and reared back, set hook and chunk of a chunk came up,Owner hook like a doggone harpoon, did not disappoint me and ended up nabbing a few more nice and chunky T Funk bass, biggest weighed right at 3lbs,had one shade under 2 lbs,one shade over 1 lb and right as I got to 3 Rivers Rd Launch, got text from GB3 wanting to know if I was up to taking boat ride down Bayou Lacombe to check out his crab traps(how could I turn dat offer down???).Texted him pic of bass, texted de Wiz and a few fishing/hunting buddies and all asked same question-what did chunk weigh-field guestimated 3.5 but was off by 0.5lbs(maybe it lost a tad of weight since I caught it around 6:10 and weighed it about 1:30pm)!GB3 and I managed to catch almost 2 dozen crabs and he was generous enough to donate almost a dozen to me,thanks,GB3.Got text from Bayoubob dat Big Branch Marsh now gonna allow duck hunts til 2:00 pm.major change, awesome news except dat NOW we will waste even MORE of our hunt days!!!
