Teal Opener

Made opening weekend than a quick pack up to get the camper out of Delacroix and shut everything down on the lot, 1 Blue Wing Hen on Saturday, loads of whistlers passed looking at the spread couple of big ducks looked as well, seen a few bands floating around which was great to see, weather held off till we were back at the launch, Sunday knocked 4 down 1 in the boat 3 to the saw grass, definitely more birds floating around on Sunday whistlers still buzzing the decoys with a pair of grays that gave the spread a couple of high slow passes which was good to see, water super high, couple of great sunrises mother nature painted up for us that morning. Watched one small gator stalking the mojo in the spread. Not that many hunters out for either day I'd say 15 to 20 trucks at the launch did hear a reasonable amount of shooting. All in all a great weekend in our wonderous South East Louisiana Marsh

We hunted Delacroix Saturday AM. DNF. Hell, we didn't even reach for our guns at any time. We saw exactly 7 teal on two flocks. We watched my lease partner reap the benefits of both those flocks. They killed 3. In fact, that's the most I heard anyone say they had at the Serigne's after the hunt. Slim pickings in Delacroix and heard very little shooting in general. I think Delacroix, Reggio and Carnarvan were stonewalled this opener for some reason. I did hear great reports from the PLH area.

Gadwall , We hunted Caernarvon/ Northern Delacroix area, same as you the other lease member DNF, depended on where ya set up and where they were moving couple of folks at the launch had 3 birds, the numbers that were shot actually break a 3 year drought of no teal for me during the teal season. Leases around the Mardi Gras Pass Area have consistency been shooting a few teal but my contact in the area lost their lease last year, One Contact hunting Houma Area dropped 7 another in Empire DNF, the other issue on our place was super high water levels. hopefully now that the season has opened the birds down start moving around. If this storm doesn't tear too much up we'll be back at it to either sit and watch sunrises or watch sunrises and shoot a few teal

For many years we have struggled during the teal season on our regular lease. Sometimes we shoot them and sometimes we don't fire our gun. After doing some scouting in other areas over the last few years we got permission to hunt some property where the ducks are and the obvious happens.

On Saturday four of us hunted the same blind and shot 24 teal. We lost two to alligators so our total for the day was 22. The pond is not real big and we had 16 decoys out with two spinners. The great thing about early season hunting is the teal work real well and often times come over the decoys for easy shots.

On Sunday three of us went out with windy conditions and rising tide, floating shell buckets and shot 12 teal. Odd thing was we probably saw more teal Sunday but they did not work us like the day before.

Very good weekend for us hunting and we had a good time as we always do, but when the teal show up it is a real bonus. Hurricane be gone so we can get back at it again. Video of the hunts will be coming soon.

Look forward to the video delta duckman. I hunted Saturday and sunday. Not much luck. Hunting Bayou Black area in Houma, la. Very few teal in the area. I’ve heard great reports from the Montegut/Chauvin area. But that’s about it, other than out west.

Hunted Delacroix both days, 9 on saturday and 0 on Sunday. Like many reported above, saw more birds on Sunday (in the floods) than on Saturday, but we played hell getting them over the decoys, seemed to be flaring off the spinners. Called hunt early to gather stuff out some blinds and head in to prep camp for storm. Hope all make out ok with this one and we can get back out there soon

Hope everyone stays safe and hopefully sally doesn’t blow the few birds we have out the southeast.

CC Gator swam off under his own power to make it for another gator season. Looks like Delta had a good hunt can't wait to see the video.
