Last minute trip this evening 10/11 with my boy. Launched at 4:30 pm and ran to Lake Catherine. Tried here and there with no luck. Running through the middle of the lake trying to figure out next move when my son spotted a bird diving in the distance so we headed that way. Pulled up around 5:45 pm to shrimp jumping everywhere. For the next 45 minutes to an hour we hauled in trout after trout, every cast. They were even hitting our corks. Have not seen a feeding frenzy like this in a really long time. Unsure of the exact count but we ended with around 20 speckled trout 14 to 18 inches and kept about the same in decent sized white trout. We could have sunk the boat in 10 inch white trout no telling how many we threw back.

We did well in that area at my camp under the lights this weekend. Plenty of specks and white trout under the light. Many are small but if you catch enough you can get enough of the legal ones. We had 6 redfish in the mix Saturday night. The dreaded west winds we had all weekend did not slow down the action.

Nice catch! Trout should be in Lake P by now. Fall should be fun! Fish before the fronts, hunt during and after! What a life!!!

Delta Duckman, being that you have a camp with a lighted pier, what do you consider proper etiquette regarding boaters fishing your lights? For the record, I haven't night fished in years. When I have it was always from a camp we rented with a lighted pier, never from a boat. I ask because the thought crossed my mind as we were picking up yesterday just after dark. Three boats were launching and headed out to fish that night. I didn't ask where they were fishing but can only assume they were going to fish the many lighted piers along Lake Catherine. Thanks for any input you may have.

The light at the end of my dock comes on from dusk to dawn every day. I have no issues at all if people fish the light at night if I am not on the dock fishing myself. For many years boaters have passed the dock and if they see me or any of the family / friends fishing they keep on going and don't stop. On occasion some slow down to ask how the fishing is going? It seems they all respect that someone is there and move on to the next camp light.

There have been occasions when I have gotten to the camp late and someone would be fishing when they see me they pick up and leave.

To answer your question, I think proper etiquette for boaters is to pass up the lights where people are fishing on the dock because we are the ones paying for the electricity, come back some other time.

Good answer,Delta, met a gem of a guy who has underwater light that ALWAYS attracts extremely nice fish and I chatted with him, always respect his property as if it were my own and have even shown a few select folks exactly where this light is!!!Hard to pass this structure BUT ya gotta get there early otherwise ya might not even know it exists!!!Found it many, many moons ago and hit it every chance I get and the owner fishes Fourchon religiously(should fish his light)!!!

Thanks for the reply Delta Duckman. Your answer is pretty much what I figured and is what I would do if I were in my boat at night. And good luck to you this fall with fish and ducks! Looks like everything is lining up to be a good season for both

Older son and I might just sneak in fishing trip this Sat hoping to nab a few dem fine reds like GB3 had a week ago(fishing in MY spots)!!!CCAguns and I got after deer food plots today, was very nice getting lil Kubota back home where she belongs and gonna probably head back there next Wed hoping to get both his plot as well as mine ready for seeding.Hope to nab a few dem inexpensive Moultrie gravity-flow feeders and need to re-power other motorized feeder and set up secondary stand.I typically have some ultra-lush plots, probably well over 2 acres in total and might have to start bush hogging them in early summer and maybe right before fall planting.Getting ready to check weather and tidal forecasts for this Sat and probably gonna stay off water after this Sat til last week of October.Love fall fishing and just filled out self-clearing permit electronically for Honey Island Swamp WMA(wanna chase some tree rats tomorrow)!!

Checked both wind and tide forecasts and BOTH look to be prime for where me and older son headed to this Sat.
