Lady PFishing Trip 10 17 2020

Had decent window of opportunity, looked like winds gonna be brisk but at least from NE direction and had all-day incoming tide and older son opted out at last minute(at least he assisted me in getting SouthFork hitched to tow vehicle).Hit Main St Launch around 7:00 am,chatted with gent in '67 model riveted aluminum boat with nice camo paint job on outboard, went to hit key on outboard, spun somewhat slowly then NADA!!!Quickly realized I had one of two options and chose easy option-check positive battery cable and moved it to loosen corrosion then tightened it and de ole Johnson roared yet again.Did see gent I met at launch and he was seeking slabs, not a bad choice.Guess I coulda chosen better day(day after front typically lock-jaw day)but tomorrow NOT an option, nor do I have options next week SO-hit grassbeds, saw a few lure-chunkers saw no one boating anything and hit area I used to pound out quality specks vs quantity and even saw a few folks striking out BUT-ya gotta have not only patience but soft plastic finesse touch here and did get rewarded with blue catfish(first fish to hit box)then fine but under-sized red followed up by two keeper specks, all these fellows fell for tried-and-true Berkley Gulp,Swimming Mullet,Chartreuse,of course.Made my way back towards grassbeds, chatted with fellow tossing hard plastics(great option)and he said he had helluva strike when he first arrived,NADA after!!!Ole Lady P kicked up quite a bit and older son called, told hom bout my catch and he thought ole dad would be upset dat he opted out-NO WAY-gorgeous day,saw tons of stingrays,at least 8 sheepshead and all signs indicating dat ole Lady P a salty ole gal gonna be giving up some quality and quantity SOON,if not already!!Made my way back to Main St,saw gent fly-casting and figured he was either testing new line or newly-tied fly and turns out it was the latter,Robert is the gent and what a gem of a guy-gave me his card and we both got a kick outta his calling card!!!Told him must be Robert is synonymous with 'All Around Good Guy' as we have Bob Buras in our Abita KC Council and his name tag notes 'All Around Good Guy'!!!This Robert assisted me in getting ole SouthFork back onto trailer and we chatted for a while,he loves fly fishing and fashioning his own flies and will attach pic of the fly he just today modified.Funny coincidence in that we BOTH abandoned the same website,NOT gonna mention name of site,no need to give this particular site ANY airtime!!!Got 50th Wedding Anniversary Party to attend tonight(both folks dear friends AND Medicare Clients of Wifey and me).Ole Lady P getting righteous-wish I had more time to fish her but got trip planned in few weeks and judging by the salt content AND clarity of water,Fall fishing on Lady P should be better than average, bordering on AWESOME!!!

You’re a diehard if you fished today that wind was howling surprised it wasn’t dirty. We might make a trip tomorrow morning

Went to Rigolets and Lake Cat, this morning. You right about the lock jaw....and the wind!
One Bay Snapper and one Green Trout. Both on plastic with dead shrimp teaser. Lot of people fishing....I didn’t see much catching. Glad I was in a big boat, today.

AJ,When I started, the winds were not that bad and I headed E and got to protected water, thankfully.Might have done much better had I ditched trying grassbeds(water was incredibly clear out there)and protected cove was holding fish and once the winds settle down and tidal movement gets prime(last week of this month should be fairly good)fishing gonna improve.Did catch hell getting back to Bayou Lacombe and took my time, chatted with older son and he was happy he slept in today.Like I said, water where I fished was gin-clear,mullets galore and just matter of time before specks and possibly reds grace PLENTY boxes,NO BAIT needed!!Yep,bet front sent fish into lock-jaw mode, guess I was lucky to catch anything today!!
