Took Wifey and Grandson to Bayou Lacombe,outta Main St yesterday ,wanting to toss some soft plastics at bass and scope out water levels in preparation for this am's Nuck,Futz,AJ Trio duck hunt.Because of low water levels where we intended to hunt,made de executive decision to get AJ to join me and let Nuck hunt his typical solo blind.AJ and I slugged it out to get to fine pond that ALWAYS seems to produce ducks and is where I luckily shot one-man limit last season(only limit all regular duck season)!!Guess I accurately predicted what was about to transpire as I told AJ we would most likely have decent chances at mottled ducks,possibly some shots at mallards and maybe a bonus grey or two.He expertly set up Chapman pirogue blind with one pirogue and used about 10 palmetto fronds to completely conceal retrieving pirogue.We got set up with bout hour to spare and wished Nuck well and heard very few mottled ducks but once legal shooting time approached,we spotted bunch of mottled ducks,hit our calls aggressively at pair and they responded by soaring right in,each of us dropped one and they took few shots on water to get em still!!!Awesome when dat happens and where we typically hunt,not at all unusual to get mottled ducks in close,we camo to de T and employ few dekes.Had another pair soar in way close but we already had fine trophy pair of mottled ducks and had to refrain!!Not long after,had what appeared to be yet another pair of mottled ducks,I refrained fearing that we had yet another pair of mottled ducks,AJ (Dead Eye)lined up drake,took one shot and dropped him but he needed a few shots to finish him.Too bad I refrained as pretty sure we woulda bagged fine pair of greys vs solo drake!!!Last hooray was pair of fully-plumed scaup dat ole Dead Eye took one shot at,dropped both!!On this partucular volley,I saw em with enough time to clearly ID em and refrained from shooting.Emerged from marsh with 5 ducks,pair of mottled ducks,pair of scaup,fine drake grey and hope to slug it out tomorrow to get on 'X'Hope we replicate our results but ya gotta go to know!!
