Boat built in Alabama need to register in La

Reply
I’m having a 1860 mud boat and trailer built in Alabama and need to register it in Louisiana. What are the steps to take to do this and does anyone have any tips or tricks to accomplish this without it being a pain in the a$$.

1) Take the bill of sale to your local parish office to pay the La, taxs in your parish. (This took me about 30 minutes - very painless).
2) Take the parish paid tax receipt and the bill of sale to Baton Rouge La. Wildlife and Fisheries office and pay the registration fee.. They will issue you your registration numbers (very easy).

I purchased my boat in Texas and waited over 3 months for them to get the PAPERWORK right. I finally contacted the owner of the company - they sent me 2 signed checks. I went to the parish tax office in the morning, drove to Baton Rouge the same morning, and had my registration numbers by noon.

It is pain but not too bad. You have to go the the your parish courthouse and pay the tax. Then go to the state capital and pay the tax. Once you nave those documents, you can go to wildlife and fisheries and get your registration. Same for the trailer, too. Depending on the sales amount, it can cost a few hundred dollars or so.
