After watching nice Saints victory and Steelers getting handled, decided to scope out Wunderground and saw dat light rain predicted plus N winds in forecast and loaded up Chapman pirogue with half-dozen woodie dekes plus nice bundle of palmetto branches and did solo Honey Island wood duck hunt this am.Rain,as predicted, was very steady but not deluge and got to one of my favorite ponds well ahead of anyone else dedicated to trying change of pace(very few ducks in most of the areas I typically hunt ducks).Nice to be able to go online and get signed up for WMA's and NOT have to stop at self check-in stations-did see few vehicles dat came in right after me but think they were headed elsewhere.Had awesome set-up,heard solo drake right after legal shooting time, spotted nice tree rat dat had no idea where I was, lined him up,only after waiting and not seeing much of anything, dropped him like bad habit and did see two pairs of woodies, one looked like they wanted to land nearby but not sure where they decided to land.On way back after slowly trying to stalk more tree rats, looked up,saw nice 8-bird woodie flock and fired shot saw them disperse and had I connected, this woodie may have landed right on top of my deke spread!!!They were at fringe of decent range but after one shot they climbed way outta range-heard ZERO shots but think I may make return trip soon!!!Hope to see great National Championship Game tonight and hope Saints de-cleat ole Tom Brady and his band of Bucs!!
