Sherburne WMA Wild Turkey Lottery Pick!!!

Reply
Wifey and I were the lucky recipients of lottery pick for Sherburne WMA's up-coming Wild Turkey Lottery Season. We hope and pray that the once-thriving wild turkey population comes back to even a shell of what it once was!!This is the earliest I have ever been notified of being selected, perhaps a lotta folks have abandoned the Sherburne area. One thing that we like about Sherburne is the fishing in Little Alabama Bayou is typically fairly good and the sac a lait bite might be decent at that time!!!Always gotta have Plan B ready to enact!!

Good luck!! Keep us posted on how it goes. I'm interested to hear if things are any better over there. You're right, it used to be full of turkeys but has been awful the past few years.

ExxonMobil1,Yep be glad to send along our report and I will be forever grateful to a P and C Insurance Agent who many years ago got back to me,actually agreed to meet me at the Little Alabama launch to point out an awesome spot(turns out I shot a banded Jake in the area he showed me)and we have seen very few turkeys the past few years, more than likely due to extreme Atchafalaya flooding, numerous other floods, hurricanes, etc!!Too bad the LAWLF does not consider 'seeding' the vast Sherburne WMA with wild turkeys. We still enjoy our trips down Little Alabama Bayou and the fishing should be fairly decent when we show up for our Lottery Week End!!We also applied for the Pearl River WMA,much closer to home and a few years ago, while stalking tree rats somewhat last in that season,I videotaped two huge longbeards fighting over two nice hens, all four birds were in same tree!!!

Wow! That ain't something you see everyday!! Yeah I can remember years ago going to Sherburne with my dad (either the 1st year they opened back up to turkey hunting or the second) and it was incredible. Seems like almost every hunter killed. Pearl River ain't too far from me either but I have never set foot on the place. Unfortunately the poor numbers over the last few years has forced me into paying out of state Mississippi hunting license fees.

ExxonMobil1,What was ultra-cool about the wild turkey encounter was there was another hunter doing some hog stalking and I quietly pointed them out and he witnessed the scene. Two big ole long beards were going at it trying to tear each other up over two mature hens. Videotaped for about 3 minutes and they had no idea I was maybe 75 yards away. Hope Wifey and I at least see or hear a few gobblers. Sounds incredible when they sound off 🦃
