Delacroix/Reggio Duck Hunting

Guys,what do you all think happened to the Delacroix/Reggio area as ducks are concerned? No storms this year,marsh is seemingly in good condition.Possible flyway change? Large numbers in SW LA.Looking like we may have to start traveling to get decent duck hunting like we do for deer hunting. Thoughts?

SE Louisiana Report:

We hunted Saturday shot 3 teal and Sunday we shot 2. Hunted yesterday and up until 7:20 we had one duck in the boat then all hell broke loose for 45 minutes, ended up with 17. We had to leave to get to work. More teal have showed up with the cool front.

We'll try it again this weekend, glad to see y'all have blue rockets on the table!

Good to hear! We just got back to the truck with two blue wings taken in Pearl River WMA this morning. We saw 6 flocks but only one flock came in range, much better than opening day.

I haven't gone duck hunting yet, but we'll try it this weekend, and I'm delighted to see you've got blue rockets on the table! I just wanted to let you know how hard it is to repair drywall.

I had a camp there for 30 years, just quit this year

Water was brackish, grey duck limits for 25 years, specks off the dock, dogris like mosquito
Water is now fresh, greys are going, some teal
But the ducks moved out this areas, first in the front about 10 years ago and now by us in the back, I have seen this happen in many of my hunting leases on both sides of the river during my 45 years of duck hunting and they usually don’t come back
Too many hunters, too little ducks!

Late 4 years made about 20 hunts and probably only shot 20 ducks, and most were the locals, dog needs something to retrieve

Smacker,we hunted this area for 22 years and you are correct. No more grays,very few teal. As the alligator population increased,the mottled duck population decreased. Last 5 or 6 years I have had alligators attacking and crushing my decoys and beating me to some of the very few ducks that hit the water.I think the gators have devastated the mottled duck hatchlings. Every year seems like the duck hunting gets worse and worse except for a few limited areas.

Guys,I have only been hunting for possibly 22-24 years,hunt with a gent with about twice my tenure and neither of us have been having much success with respect to grey ducks(should tell ya something)and ya know it is weak when ya shoot more mottled ducks vs grey ducks and that unfortunately is the typical pattern,at least for me,and my hunt buddy emphatically states we have some serious issues with duck migration patterns being possibly irreparably altered to where Texas hunters and hunters in other states benefit tremendously!!Not enough time for an in-depth discussion on the why's and where's but get more than used to weaker and weaker duck seasons!!
