long arm of the law caught up to me!!!

Reply
well, yesterday, 6/12/07, the long arm of the St John Parish Sheriff's Dept caught up with me. Nice Deputy stops by the house to inform us that we have to put the flat boat in the backyard or in the garage. Well, since I'm not gonna spend a couple hundred $$ to put in a new gate, looks like I'm gonna spend Father's Day cleaning out the garage.

with the rise of crime out here since the Katricians have been moving to Laplace, you think the Sheriff's Office would have better things to do than Code Enforcement. (end of rant)

Ah, well, the boat will be better off in the garage, given the recent Katrician migration to these parts. Plus, I can leave all the tackle boxes etc in it all the time.

wil, i guarantee the deputy wasn't riding around and said to himself, hmmmm, let me screw with this guy. that came from higher up, like the politicians and lawyers, and he has no choice but to do his job.

Man what part of azz backwards st john do you live in? My flat is in the front yard and no one has ever told me anything. Of corse it won't fit in my back yard and it is to wide for the garage. Man I am glad I am moving out of this parish

Do you live in a neighborhood with restrictions? I've never had a problem in LaPlace with my flat boat. It sits at the back end of the drive way in plain view. Im willing to bet someone called you in.

I know the Deputy was only doing what he is told to do. I have never had an issue with any Deputy. I have several cousins on JPSO, one of whom passed away 18 mos ago after retiring as head of Traffic Division.

It's in the bylaws of the Homeowner's Assoc, which past President had told me back in 2001 about the rule, but he said he wouldn't enforce it unless someone complained, as he was a fisherman too.

I think they are starting to crack down on the HOA rules cuz we now have a number of cars parked in the streets overnight, as quite a few residents have had relatives move into their homes post-Katrina. The by laws say that no cars may be parked in the street overnight, they must be in garage or driveway. I think they are going after the boats first, then the cars in the street.

I got a lot of stuff in the garage that I need to get rid of, and with the boat inside, I won't have to load and unload everything every week.

The subdivision is Spring Meadow off of Woodland Rd.

My house is 200' from where "Ox" was killed last year.

please note that some of my remarks in the original post were tongue in cheek, LOL.

I smell bacon, I smell grease.. I smell the stench of the freakin POLICE!!!...HEHEHEHE.....its a shame what America is coming too. Justify the deputy all you want, he needs to be worrying about REAL criminals, and grow a set and tell the so called "higher" ups that too....I wonder how much its has cost east baton rouge parish to enforce its "dust free" parking ordinance. Idiots

Probally a neighbor that you didn't give fish to or don't like fishing made the call on you

All it takes is a phone call. I used to have a neighbor like that. She was renting a house up the street and she would call anytime someone had a boat in the front or working on a car in the driveway. She even asked my parents if they could make their garden look better. She had some nerve.

Move to St.Charles Parish in the old neighborhoods not the new whitey tightey neighborhoods and put your boat where you want.

I'm staying put for now, future plans are for a country place, acre or two where I can do what I want.

Older neighborhoods don't appeal to me, houses usually smaller, not as open of a floor plan, etc.

i used to live right by you and that area was really nice until the storm hit. i was in the newer area but i'm pretty sure our homeowner's bylaws were the same. every part of the boat and trailer had to be behind the front corner of the house. i was lucky enough to be able to put my boat on the side and hide it with a fence. i went drive though that area to go see my old neighbor whom was selling his house and i couldn't believe how some people were letting things go. it don't look like it didn't before the storm. anyway, i moved to a place (in laplace) with even stricter covenant's but i didn't realize how strict. i had my boat parked behind my house on a pad i built specifically for my boat. i was told i had to move it because it was visible from a road.. wtf. i couldn't believe that since the plans before i built, showed the driveway(behind my house) for the boat area, and they were approved by the HOA. anyway, it's in may garage till i build a fence. it's aggravating but i understand since you don't want people letting your subdivision go to hel1. property values are still pretty good in that area, but if it keeps going the way it's going, and you'll know what i mean by this, that place is going to look like cambrige and have the same property values as cambrige.
