I have never used them before b/c I do not go out very far in a 14 foot boat, but I see SeaTow advertise anytime, anywhere for about $120.00 per year. Would definately be worth it if you ever need them. Hope this helps.

...that's the advantage of a "two boat trip"...then you don't make the 10 PM TV Newscast...cheers

I have seen the Vermillion Parish Sherriff Dept towing before. I saw them pulling a good size boat off a flat with an Airboat once too, that wasn't a pretty sight, talk about a muddy boat. The Coast Guard monitors channel 16 down there too.

I just talked to SeaTow, They do not offer any services west of Fourchon but they will help you find a towing company in the area if their is one if you sign up.

Guess I need a coonsazz Seat Tow membership. 10h.p. kicker motor c-clamped to the back.

good luck using the local S.O. when your in a bind, been there done that got the t-shirt, they usually try to pass it off to the LADWF, that is unless you happen to be someone that they find to be important. LADWF will help, but I'm told that the agents no longer stay at the camp on the island anymore, so the wait might exceed the blood loss from the mosquitoes. Your best bet is to form a mutual aid agreement with someone, and file a float plan before leaving. I've checked into the Sea-tow option, and the membership fee is not all inclusive when it comes to tows, especially in areas where there is no local coverage. You might be better off bringing your laptop and posting a help request here, the good ole boy network around here would probably work alot quicker than our tax paid responders!

I was told the Vermillion sheriffs office does tow but they are slow in getting to you. I know a guy that got stuck in Fearman Lake and it took them two hours to get to them. Thats only about ten minutes from their dock with a fifty so I would say if you get stuck out in the pass be prepared to stay awhile.

I've heard many a stories from people who couldn't get responses from either. Recently a buddy of mine this year was out and stranded in the bay. He called both and several hours later no one arrived. Story was they gave him the run around the whole time saying they were just east or just west of him, on their way, etc. The vermilion parish govt is nothing but the good ol boy network. Crooks really if you start looking into the whole Vermilion Corp Permit thing... If you're ranking is not a brother in law or better you can forget it.

Not sure where all the negative comments are coming from about the Vermillion Sheriff Department. The day after Thanksgiving, I had a catastrophic engine failure while on the way out to the bay on a speck trip. Of all the sports out there that day, not one stopped to pull me in. Made a phone call to VPSO, and one hour later, I was being towed in.

Do you people bashing them realize that the marine division can not be there for you when you snap your fingers? They do not have a deputy on the water 24/7. They do their best and that is all you can ask for. The towing service is free also, try getting that w/ Sea Tow! Thanks Sheriff Mike Couvillion and Deputy Lane Picard, keep up the good work!

In the past months I had a break down in the Bird Island Bayou area, made a call to the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office and Gerald Scott was on his way. Fortunatly, I was able to get my boat started, and Gerald waited to make sure I got in safely. Good Job, quick response, and a belated big thanks to Gerald. One other suggestion, don't rely just on a cell phone, coverage in the area of Marsh Island, and further South can be very "ify". A good VHF-FM is not expensive and well worth the bucks.

Your best bet is to let others know where you are going and when you should return. When you do return give them a call to let them know you are ok. DO NOT RELY on any gov. agency to come get you. Unless you know someone in the know. It all depends on whats going on for them to come and get you.

Personally, I am luck to have plenty of friends who also boat. My biggest concern is being able to get in touch with them when offshore should something arise. You can call the GC on 16 and they will try the number for you. I have heard it done before. Good Luck & Be Safe out there!!
