Reply
Do any of you guys know who I can send a Lowrance GPS unit to get repaired other then Lowrance itself? I'm tired of sitting on hold for hours at a time w/o speaking to anyone. Thanks in advance for your help.

Way I hear everbody tell about Lowrance support is that it SUCKS. I've got one on the blink myself and because it's so old (99), nobody wants to fool with it. I'm leaning towards a Garmin or a Hummingbird. I'm even thinkin bout 2 units, one GPS, one graph. Any comments out there fellers??????

last christmas, i was at the bass pro shop in pearl, mississippi. a friend of mine was inquiring about a handheld gps for his son. i told him to buy a garmin. and then a lady salesperson showed up and informed all of us that lowrance was the way to go!!! she went on and on about the freebies with the lowrance unit, maps etc. i asked her about upgrades on lowrance software. then she became extremly tight mouthed. i also asked her if lowrance would repair a unit that was out of warranty at the owners expense!!!! she became even more tight mouthed, and would not answer the question!!! garmin will update not only their units online, but will also do software upgrades online.

It's amazing that such a company with as much exposure as Lowrance has such low quality service. Yesterday I made three different calls and was on hold for an hour each call for a total of three hours on hold yesterday, finally gave up. Today I started all over again and finally after being on hold for 45 minutes I spoke to a human being (Imagine that). After 30 minutes of questioning the lady at the other end said for me to send $150.00 and it would take a few weeks to get my unit back, that's why I am asking if anyone knows where I can get my unit repaired other then by Lowrance please reply. Thanks a bunch.

My experience with Humminbird customer service has been all positive. Easy to get on the phone, and really fast service. I haven't had to send a unit in, but I broke a transducer bracket, and they sent me a new one in a couple of days. Online software updates, free Humminbird PC download so you can edit your waypoints without having to push all the buttons on the unit. I transferred my waypoints from my old Lowrance LMS 160 to the Humminbird 797. The Lowrance software would print them, but I couldn't get it to save them to disk. So I had to manually type them in on Humminbird PC, then load them to an SD card and put that in the unit, and presto! transferred waypoints. All the Humminbird stuff worked fine.

The 797 is a really neat unit. You can find all kinds of "Secret Spots" with it and get a better understanding of why your old good spots are good. It's a little tricky to read in shallow water(less than 10 feet), but still works fine. In deeper water it's awesome! I've only used it in the salt once, and it helped a little, but I was fishing in mostly less than 3 feet of water. Bass fishing it has helped a lot. I found an old road bed with bass on it, a school of white bass, some old tires on the bottom, an old sunken duck blind on the bottom, and several midlake humps and creek channel intersections.

Last time I used it was a rough ride in, driveways were horrible. Parking lot kinda smallish. Leads out to new river canal through the pump station. Topeka Mobile Truck Repair
