Skunk under camp

Reply
I have a skunk hanging out under my deer camp. Its closed in on the bottom but he dug under the skirting. The last two times I was there I could smell a strong skunk scent w/in the camp.

Any ideas how to get rid of him? If worse comes to worse I'll just get up reall early and wait him out w/ a shotgun but hate to wake my neighbors that way.

Thanks for any advice.

You could trap him but what would you do with a live skunk in a trap?!!! Put the trap against the hole and when he comes out, he gets caught.

But remember, disposal is going to be tricky!!!

Depends on where you are, but most animal control will give you a trap to use, and when you catch it you call them and they come and "dispose" of it for you.

I don't know if it would work....but try putting a box of moth ball under you camp. The smell should drive it away.

This will also keep insects and other anamals away.

Maybe you could tie a bunch of rope(100ft?) to the trap. If you catch him you could drag the trap behind you and pull it straight into a pond... You can figure out the rest for your self.

Set your live trap inside a burlap sack with just the opening uncovered. When you catch your skunk very gently slide the trap fully inside the sack and close it off. They wont spray in a confined area. To release untie the sack and tie the door open. Walk away.

Gerald has the right idea, moth balls. Pull a piece of the skirting aloose, away from the hole he's using. Drop a few moth balls in and close it back up. He will soon leave and stay away. If you have any other buildings go on and put them under it too so he won't just move there. Don't go overboard with them though, too many will smell up the camp.
I've done it, it works.

smoke'm out.... or toss a roach bomb under there. he'll come out.. be waiting with a .22

I'm with Pecan, get rid of the problem permantly. We use those bombs in our box stand in the fall for wasp. That thing will get him out and the .22 will finish the job. If you just run him out, he might stay close by.

You can get them at Wally World or any grocery store. They sometimes come in a 3 or 4 pack. These are the one's where you press down and lock a tab on top of can. It's not actually a bomb, but a self releasing insect poison. This is so you can leave the area being treated without killing yourself in the process. They work great in your boxstand when the first cold spell hits and the wasp seek shelter. I go to the stand early in the morning when they are huttled up and set it off. I would not recommend any fire related way to smoke the skunk out, would defeet the purpose if you burn camp to the ground. Raid makes these bug bomb thing.

Ok I know what you mean now. I do use them with the tab you depress. They now make them with no mess or residue for enclosed areas. In college we had some cats in the attic in the Frat house that put fleas everywhere. We got the cats out then set up 6 of those bombs in the attic. I shot each of them with a pellet gun to make them go off. We did not have roaches, fleas, or any bugs for a while.. Those do work pretty good just never tried them on wasp...
