Helping down south

Reply
Well we have the first hurricane of the season out there and it got me to thinking about some of the guides down south. Most if not every guide have more than one boat and usually only one vehicle to pull them with.Alot of them all over the extreme south would probably appreciate any help preparing for a storm. If you have a truck and are willing to help just reply to this post and if they need you they can send you an email. Thanks in advance to those who respond.

I am touched by this thread. Trust me it is a concern for most. I know for Katrina, I hauled 6 boats north of the levee before the water came up then was scrambling to find trucks to get them further north.

I am touched by the thought that any and all of you are offering. This shows there is hope for our society.

This is a good post meauxjeaux2 because you hit the nail of the head. I'm a resident of Venice and I have to evacuate pretty often every year making several trips hauling my fishing boat, duck boat, utility trailer etc. and my problem is that my family and friends can't help because they are hauling there own stuff too.
Reply
Anytime boola.I live in baton rouge and will haul anyone's boat free of charge in an emergency.I have room in my yard for at least 4 bay boats, but will haul to wherever you choose. And to all you guides down south, capt.john, capt.boola, capt. ben leto, capt. susan gross, etc. let all your other guide friends know that the L.A.S.M. convoy is ready to roll at a moments notice.

sounds good I'll pass this info on! thanks!

I've got two here, MO, and do appreciate the very generous offer. The last time I got to take NO boats away. Definitely put ME on the list!

Im here guys to help and also have an acre of land on the side of my house to park your rigs if needed.they will be safe in the little town of IOTA.(thats by JENNINGS LA)Just remember to do it early as possible b/c im sure yall remember how the traffic jams were.May GOD have mercy on us this year and keep us all safe.
Reply
I live on a couple acres and can accept boats in the City of Central (Baton Rouge area).
Reply
You've heard of the 'long range computer models', well they are starting to shift this thing north. You have at least two of the models showing this thing entering the Gulf and centering on the Houston area. Regardless of where it goes, its going to be a long few days as there is just too much to do to wait. I would offer my parent's place in Central but man it is long and narrow, I'm always afraid that a tree is going to fall and take a boat with it in one of these storms.
Reply
This ofer goes for all of south LA. That goes for the Poe's and everyone in the S.W. coastal region of LA. Also if you have a place to offer people to park their rigs make sure it is clear of trees.

I am in Hattiesburg MS and do not mind helping out as well. That sounds like it is a long ways away but i can be in Venice in about 3 hours. Have plenty of room to store several boats, campers etc.
Reply
Thanks meauxjeauxx2 and to everyone that has volunteered for the LASM convoy. It is best for us to be prepared early...I can still remember watching Katrina mow across Florida then exlode in the Gulf...all the time forecasted to turn North into the panhandle. If Hurricane Dean gets anywhere into the north central Gulf I'm out of here. As Capt. Boola said, those of us in southern Plaquemines Parish have to hit the road 36-hours out.

That being said, I do have a 22-Skeeter ZX Bay boat that I might need help with as I am sporting a cast to my right knee now after a July 4th boating accident.

Keep this thread going and let's keep our fingers crossed this thing tracks west...

You got it susan.I will be available all weekend if anybody needs help down south with buttoning up they're places,of getting things outta there. You are right susan about 36 hrs. before. Not sure what the government will try to do this year as far as letting people drive south. It's an easy thing to move a boat a couple of hours up north, just email me or anyone else that offered they're help.

I have a Nissan Titan if need be. I will check back here to see whats going on I will be happy to help. I do not have anywhere to keep any boats but will be happy to tow some anywhere needed. I worked with Seatow after the storm and saw what that thing did to so many friends boats. Hate to see it happen again. Might be a good idea to start checking your trailers to make sure bearings are greased and so on. Rather safe than sorry.

Well I've gotta say that I'm not at all suprised the response this post has gotten.During the slack times we all go through when we are begging for something to do and come here and start bickering about alot of nothing, just know what kind of people really come to this site, just look at the responses to this post and know we are all sportsmen and we all are good natured people who are willing to help anyone. If this storm does not hit us we still need to get together and catch some fish.

If there would have been some help maybe we would not have lost the Arognaut in Venice Marina(three days from impact). I was out of town at the time of Katrina and by the time I made it back I wasn't allowed to head south on 23. If I had not had one of my bay boats with me I would have lost it too! This time of year it is really risky to leave your prized possessions down in lower Plaquemines! If a storm makes it to our vicinity they will NOT let you south to secure whatever it is! Typically you have to get a hold of someone that is already down there at that point. I've got room for at least 8 boats here in Luling so sign me up for the parking space. This has to be one of the best threads on here to date. Thanks meauxjeauxx2.

p.s.
I'm available to haul boats out of harms way too. Mine are already home! 2500 HD Ram Cummins/Banks for snatching up boats and the 6.0 Fords! >:)

Excellent idea.
Now, how about doing the same for PEOPLE?
I am willing to be a "host" for a family that needs to evacuate the lower parish(s) of La. My wife and I live in a home alone that has 3 bedrooms and can take in a small family for a short duration (up to a couple of weeks) that need to flee another Katrina. No charge, just wanting to help people in need.
Of course we would like to know a few basic things about the fleeing family before we put them up.
Can someone put together a website where someone like myself can match up with a needy family BEFORE another Katrina arrives????? Call it what you want, lets just get it done!

WRN BAHAMAS AND S FLORIDA. THIS SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR
SUBTROPICAL OR TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF

One more thing to consider for all of you on the east side of the mississippi river.Katrina didn't spend all that much time on the east side of the river.this new storm will likley be making a direct path towards the east side of the mississippi river, which will allow it much more time to create a larger storm surge.Pray it goes somewhere else.Good night.

In the event you can't get your boat(boats) out..just drop then down on the ground..let the trailer tounge down gently and when the rain comes it will fill the boat with water, can't go nowhere..Of course you'll have to bail it when everything clears...but hey it won't go no where...Just a thought.

You have to be careful of Plaquemines. They will shut down south bound traffic on you. That cost us one of the best Tarpon fishing boats on the delta for Katrina. I am headed down tomorrow around 1 to 2 am to get one of my boats home just in case. After that I am available to get other boats out of potential harms way. I have room for 6 to 8 at home. Have diesel will snatch whatever it is up!

DO NOT WAIT to get your boat out!!!!
In todays advocate here in b.r. officials from some of the southern parishs said that if and when a mandatory evac order is issued that no boats or trailers will be allowed on the hwys as if a vehicle breaks down you can push it off the road but if a trailer breaks down it is to hard to move.
Reply
Last day before contraflow won't allow anyone to drive south.

00,
That may work up here in baton rouge, But down south where there is a major storm surge the boat trailer and all the water in it will get swept away.
GET YOUR BOATS OUT TODAY!!!
Once contra flow is established or a mandatory evac. is ordered some parishes are not going to allow anyone to tow a boat or trailer on the evac routes.
