Littering- Was motoring up Rollover canal when I saw this big guy in a 20' Express w/ a 200 hp Yamaha throw a soft drink can in the water. I wonder how many he threw in the water that day. Come on people...don't be a slob!

Slob Sportsmen
Great post. True Sportsmen not only honor their fish and game with fair chase and fishing tactics but they honor nature too by leaving it better than when you arrived. Let your fellow sportsman have a good experience. With the antis doing all they can to eliminate hunting and fishing we dont need to help them. If you litter or destroy the environment the antis will argue environmental impact on the woods or waters as opoosed to impact on fisheries or animals. Be smart, be fair. Be a sportsman.

JR probably didn't have something to write with at the moment, he said he was driving. Maybe he was too shocked and or disgusted to think about it. Anyway, that's a shame that guy threw the can overboard like that and just let it float away. Everybody knows you're supposed to fill them up with water so they sink to the bottom! HA HA!! JUST KIDDING!! REALLY!! Seriously, all joking aside, that's just the thing those flaky little tree-huggers and PETA types love to harp about when it comes to us hunting and fishing. It just gives them a little extra ammunition against us and to them it makes us good sportsmen look like a bunch of, well, as JR put it, Slobs.

Ive been all around the south and LA'sroads and waters are the worst as far as litter. Its a shame here around the house the road side is littered with corn and fertilizer and seed bags. They are taking them out of the woods but not putting anything on top of them and they just blow out of the truck.

It really burns me up to be behind someone at a red light and watch them throw their cigarette butt out of the window. They do it all the time. I usually holler at them and they look at me like I'm crazy.

I also hate when aholes throw their cig. butts out the window, they should be forced to swallow them, every stinking cancerous causing one. The guy in the boat littering should be reported after you put a hole in his boat and watch it sink! Keep the woods and our waterways and our streets and parks, etc... clean people, its common sense. Who wants to go out in the woods and see a bunch of beer cans for God's sake! Ok, I feel better now, whooh!

Smokers
I drive a caravan to work and I smoke. Dodge, for some reason, dosn't think the caravan needs an ashtray (but it has a cigarette lighter) so I keep a coke can in the cupholder with a little water in it to put my butts in. AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE TO ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN!!
THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY TO KEEP FROM LITTERING AND PEOPLE SHOULD NEVER THROW TRASH ON THE GROUND OR IN THE WATER.

yep
i was traveling on I-10 east one day between nawlins and the twinspan when the idiot in front of me threw out a cig. butt. well the butt hit the ground and bounced up and got caught if front of my radiator. within about 10-15 seconds the smoke smell was coming thru the air vent and i had to pull over and take the cig. butt out of the radiator guard. if i could have caught up with the guy i would have prob. ran rim off the fricken road.. i can't stand a litter bug. and yes, cigarete butts are litter...

I don't know whether we are the worst but we are a long, long way from being best. Having done a lot of fishing and hunting in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi they have the same problems with slobs. As much as I hate to admit it the Great Lakes states have their act together on litter. I have those litter tongs and will pick up trash right in front of the morons. One lady asked me if I wanted more aluminum. I said ma'am I'm trying to make it look like our beautiful state isn't full of idiots.

Report a Litterbug
888-548-7284

that is a toll free number you can call to report littering. it is saved in my cell phone. it is an answering machine and you leave as much info as you can. don;t know about boat numbers, but if you leave them the license number, when and where the offender will get a postcard saying they were seen littering. no way to fine them, but at least they will get the message that other people care and are watching.

Ringeaux,
I wish there was a way to fine the ones that litter . But do you really think that someone that throws a bag full of chicken bones and boxes and cups out of their car is REALLY going to care if they get a postcard in the mail???
They are putting traffic cameras in to monitor red lights why cant they put them in at intersections to catch litterbugs???

Litter..
Bayou, you may be right, but if they at least think about it next time, it is a start. I know i would be more careful if i knew more people were watching me ;-)

We at least need to try to change the mentality of some of the folks in this state when it comes to litter. how many time have you gone down a canal to see washing machines and refrigerators out in the marsh. you have to go thru a lot of effort to get them there. and, i don't mean ones moved around from the storm.

Where is the RESPECT !!
Fishing = Patience, Adaptability, Skill & Respect!!
Respect for fish, self, other's and the waterways!!!
Ever see Fouchon Beach or Elmers Island after a weekend of surf fishing ??
You may not have the first three qualities down real good but do think it not too hard to learn respect!!

Dont forget the hunters
How many times do we see crap in the woods that shouldnt be there. Either the remnants of litter from high water or just some dumazz who is too lazy to carry out his feed bag or water bottle. Or doesnt pick up their empty shotgun shells.

Anyone who litters really is an ignorant SOB.

Always leave things better than you got them.

Boat numbers, description of douche bag (age/height/weight/hair color/ etc...).

Saw a dude drop three McDonald's bags on I-10 while we were stuck in traffic. Got himself a $500 ticket from 1-800-LIT-R-BUG.

Then there was the day I saw a woman drop a dirty diaper in the parking lot of a local store. Guess what was smeared on her windshield when she returned!

I would have picked it up
then followed him and when he stopped, I would have thrown it back into his boat and said some kind words.
