I was just about your age when I started fishing with my daddy down in Destin, Florida. We would go out and I would catch big sting rays, croakers, pinfish and speckled trout on my little Zebco rod and reel.
Throughout the years, I kept on fishing and catching bigger and bigger fish. Later I got interested in tournaments, and did pretty good catching big sailfish on light tackle and winning tournaments and even won a number of World Records.
A few years ago, I turned my love of fishing into a business, and began to write stories about fishing in Louisiana Sportsman Magazine. I also go to boat shows and talk about fishing to other kids like yourself, so I would love to meet you and take a picture with you if you are at the New Orleans Boat Show in 2008.
So Destini, I am proud of you for catching your first keeper redfish and also that you are wearing your life jacket. I wear mine when I am in the boat too.
Now I have a favor to ask of you....make sure that you teach your brother and sister to fish as good as you and also keep in mind you do not have to keep all the fish you catch. Take a photo, give the fish a hug and kiss and let it go to make more baby fish for years to come, especially if you catch a really big bull redfish.
It is up to "us girls" to help conserve fish so that they will continue to be fun for us to catch for many years to come!
WAY TO GO DESTINI!!!!
Love & tight lines,
Ms. Susan Gros
