I killed this hooded merganser Friday and would like to get it mounted. If any one knows a good taxidermist near Luling please email me?

Are there two kinds of hooded mergansers ?------- many years ago in Pointe a la Hache I downed a perfect pair , not a feather ruffled in one shot , stone dead so I thought ,they landed 2 feet away from each other , I had them mounted , the coloring on the head was red-ish and the hood taller , very pretty duck , I found Mergansers not good eating , always figured them as fish eaters which made them oily -------------the funny part of that story was when I seen a guy I knew on Paris Rd while heading home , we pulled over to show him fish and ducks and when I opened the Sweggmen's bag that the pair was in to showed them , out jumps the male , he's running down the shoulder of Paris Rd and couldn't get lift off , caught up to him after what seemed like hilarious minutes and he was one hard duck to kill

The redbreasted merganser and the hooded merganser are two different ducks

Could it have been a hen hooded merganser?

I am kind of new to duck hunting. I started about 5 or 6 years ago and this is my first Hooded Merganser. My question is weather a Hooded Merganser is a duck? It looks more like a woodpecker! LOL

Yeah, most everyone consider those "trash" ducks but they actually may a very pretty mount.
