gun rust/dipped

im having a problem with my gun barrel rusting. its not a pitted rust just stained . i can spay it down with oil and the next time i use it and it and it gets wet it will rust again. i am shooting a super black eagle 1. anyone ever get there gun dipped. i have heard of people dipping them to make them a shadow grass or whatever you want. has anyone ever heard of this.

I had the same problem with my 870. I would oil it and on the next trip out the barrel would be covered with a thin layer of rust. I found a company in Roanoke, Va. They call it second skin camo. I love my 870 even more now. All I do after a hunt is wipe it down with a wet rag. The finish looks like it was always on the gun. You will not have any problems with shipping. I have a Browning Gold 3.5 and a Remington 1100 that have small surface rust spots on them that re-appear. It is a combination of the humidity and putting the gun in a case for transport while damp. The surface rust is always there, and comes back at the first signs of moisture. I have a friend that just had his Gold camo dipped and I will be sending mine after the season. Fixed that problem quick and looks great.

When I use to duck hunt alot had same problem but I solved it quickly. Wipe gun down with denatured alcohol and then warm it with blow dryer. Next spray thin coat of krylon red oxide primer on whole gun. Let dry for about an hour. Pick up various leaves, sticks, ferns around the yard. Buy camo paint from walmart, they have green, brown, khaki and flat black. Depends on what color you want to be most dominant spray that color on whole gun first without leaves and branches. Then hold leaf and spray over leaves and branches in random patterns and colors. If you screw up let dry and lightly scuff with scotch brite just to reduce pattern lines and do again. Guns come out excellent and can be done in less than an hour of work and most people think you purchased it that way. Holds up for years duckhunting. Good thing if you mess it up you can quickly fix it. Comes out awesome and cost less than $20 and you have enough to do about 3 guns.

Just sent my Browning Gold to a guy in South Carolina. He put Realtree Hardwoods HD Green coating on the gun. Got the gun back in less than a week! He actually did a better job than the guns come from the factory! I also sent off a Benelli Super Sport II and it was fine also. Would recommend this guy to anyone. It was only $175 a gun. I have a Winchester Model 1300 pump gun. It came with composite stocks and Advantage Camo coating. I love this gun, I would recommend dipping the gun to anyone who hunts in damp weather. Maintenance is so much easier not having to deal with surface rust.

I had my Winchester featherlight rifle done in Realtree hardwoods green H/D. I did the stock, trigger guard, scope, scope mounts. I didn't do the barrel , not because of the concern, but that was not the look I wanted. It costed me around 130.00 to do the whole thing and it looked like it was bought off the shelf in a store like this. I love it. Turn around was two to three weeks. The girl who I spoke to said they are contracted through Realtree and mossy oak to do their products. Check them out.

I would leave the rust. It adds character. You never shot this good with it rust free or any other gun. It would be awesome to show up those high dollar professional guns at the skeet tournament again next year with the ol rust stick.

SwampSnyper...hunted w/people around Reserve,Lutcher,Laplace,Gramercy... they all had "brown guns "...but no rust in the eyes ???...one had a bent barrel 20ga Ithaca pump...about 50 y/o...and this was 30 y/ago...he shot circles around all of us ???...when he fired that gun and tha rust would fly off ???...cheers
