GUN FOR MY WIFE

I AM WONDERING WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST RIFLE FOR MY WIFE. I AM CONSIDERING THE 243 OR THE 7MM-08. SHE IS WORRIED ABOUT THE RECOIL. ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE APPRECIATED.

I would say that if she is worried about recoil I would get her the 243.

Buy the mag and leave her home since she wants to be such a girl about it.....just kidding

my wife shoots a 30.06 and doesnt complain about the recoil at all!

I got my wife a Savage youth mdl. 243. She killed with it last Saturday evening.... After we got down, she said "I didn't even feel it kick at all"... Well a 243 has almost no recoil at all anyway,,, but shooting at a deer I think that she could have shot my 270wthby. mag and not felt anything...... If you woman is small and fragle the go with the 243.,, If she is a normal cajun woman (kind of stoute) I would go with the 7mm-08, or even look into a 308... With the 308 there are so many bullet grain choices.. Good Luck..

i got my son a 7mm-08 two years ago and he loves he never complained about any recoil the nice thing about the 7mm-08 is that you can go up to 140 grain bullet and the 243 can only go up to 100 grain bullet he has killed four deer w/ it and he can't wait for youth weekend in October.

there are som many options....the 7mm-08 is really a close comparison to the .243 .....a 6mm is exactly the same as a .243 its just remingtons version as the .243 is a winchester.....but what a lot of people don't know is that a .243 and a .308 are exactly the same casing size except the .243 is necked down to a .244 lead. so if you want a big bullet with no kick then the .308 is it .....a .308 and a 30-06 shoot the exact same lead....the .308 looses about 100 feet per secound in speed versus the 30-06 .....I own a .308 and .243 and love both of them .....just do some looking you'll find what she's comfortable with.....if you lived closer to Alexandria I'd let you come over and she could shoot my 2 and I have a neighbor that has a 7mm-08. If you want to travel this far come on she can shoot them all.

My 2 cents.

308, start off with federal reduced recoil load (good to 200 yards) then step up to full loads when she's ready (won't take long). A gun for a lifetime.

Gun - Ruger compact in stainless with laminated stock, check it out.

As Ruger said the 308 with reduced loads is a great round for ladys or young children also my favorite (lol) the 25/06 has been a favorite of a lot of lady Hunters Capt Bob

Get an Encore Pro Hunter and a 7mm-08 barrel for her and you can get any number of barrels for yourself! A 2 for 1 deal. The Encore is very comfortable to carry and shoot. And the 7mm-08 has no recoil but will shoot a 140gr bullet at great distances very accurately. I have this very combo with the thumbhole camo stock and a .50 cal barrel also. Get the non Pro-Hunter 24" barrel as teh PH barrels are 28". hebert Guns in Prairieville will set you up with any combination you want. They carry a supply of the frames and many barrels to do just this.

Weatherby makes a 7mm-08 that is affordable and

1. Comes with a guarantee ( even the target they used) that the groupings out of the box will be like 1 1/2 " or something

2. Comes with a youth and an adult stock so you, your wife and child can use it.

Chuck Hawks thinks 7mm-08 might be teh best all around whitetail cartirdge.

I love shooting the synthetic Vanguard. Recoil is managable for a 9 yr old

both of my sons started with the 7mm-08 about 8 years ago when the first one was about 9 year old. The 7mm-08 has gained popularity lately. My sons have about 10 kills on the gun. After taking deer with just about every over the counter bullet we settled on the Core-lok 140 grain. the Federal 140 Nosler Partition is also a good one but core-lok bullets cost less. The 140 grain still shoot very flat in this round. It kicks like a 243 , shoot flat like a 243 but has more down range energy than a 243. your either gonna find the deer or a big blood trial for a short track to the game. I don't trust the 243, heard to many bad stories. The 7mm-08 sits between the 243 and the 308. The 308 would be my second choice for a small person. First objective is shoot straight second is finding the game or it's blood trail! Good luck !!

cledus my 10 yr old neice shoots a 7-08 and can handle it.But dont think its just a kids or womens gun.T ake a look at its ballistics on any of the ammo and gun manufacturers websites and youll see that 100 yrds on its a pretty bad dude better than a lot of so called "mens"callibers.and u can get it in 150 grain from winchester.I personally have a 25-06 and its a pretty good cal also though not as much knockdown as the 08.

My wife uses a Remington 700 in .243, and handles that weapon with no problems. My 14 year old daughter wanted a larger weapon, and uses a Remington 700 in 7mm-08, she is comfortable with the recoil and the weight of the weapon and has no problems shooting either weapon. My suggestion would be to have her try different brands and find the make that feels most comfortable to her, as long as she is comfortable with the weapon, the caliber and recoil wont matter.....accuracy is most important

I shot a lever action .243 for years. I passed it on to my son when he has 11. I killed 75 bucks with that gun, and he killed his first with it at age 9, so recoil isn't a problem. He's killed another dozen or so with it since then. Stay with the 85 gr. boat-tail hollowpoint!
