Bow Hunting in February

Reply
I am thinking about bow hunting this weekend and through next week until the end of the bow season. Have never been in teh woods hunting after the late muzzle loader season. I know anytime spent in teh woods is not wasted time, but is this time of year productive, how is deer movement, etc.

Thanks for any info

1) Could catch a late rut.
2) If ruts over, feeding is important
3) No acorns left which concentrates the deer around food plots and feeders.
4) Less people (pressure) in the woods.

YEA, I'D SAY IT SHOULD BE A PRODUCTIVE TIME OF THE YEAR.

Only thing is it's a game of low "double digit" yardage, not like a rifle.

Like yourself, I will probably spend this wk end at Indian Bayou. Never hunted this late, just hope the rabbit hunters aren't out where I plan on going.

if you're hunting around indian bayou, this is probably the best part of the season, at least for me it is...i pretty much only hunt indian bayou late in the season, and i see quite a bit! the good thing is, you dont have to go far from the levee, the deer feed on the green grass at night, being that there isnt much for them to eat...last year, i made a hunt early feb. in indian bayou, got off of work early on a friday, WALKED in the woods MAYBE 200 yards, within 45 minutes i had 7 deer walking within 15 yards of my stand heading for the levee towards the river...couldnt get a shot though, they were spooky...the only thing bad, late season everything is dead, and the rabbit dogs keep them nervous, so make sure you wear a mask and stay well camoflauged.

I have new rubs that I'm hunting over now.. They were not there a couple of weeks ago. I find that late season the does will go back to their early ways.. Without much buck presure it's like early bow season.. If you are north of I-10 you will still have bucks in rut..
Good Luck......

ps.. beware of using doe in heat sent.. If you know that you have bucks around then use it, but if you are just looking for freezer meat and plan on shooting a doe don't use it... I had some out last weekend and I had a doe hang up because of it.. check out my post "I MISSED"

pss.. i'm also feeding hard. 150#corn and 50#ricebran each week...

I checked out that other picture of your illinois post, is that first picture of Thomas, and are your referring to the Mott property inbetween perkins field and the north end. Yes, I am talking about hunting sugar house on the north end.

Yes that is thomas, & u must know what land i'm talking about. The answer to u'r post is waiting in the woods for u this month, i personaly thing it is the best time to be hunting in there, hardly any hunters & no dog's running deer all around the woods, should see some good deer activity in there this month. Find the doe's & u will see some bucks.
