xpress boats

Has anyone heard of the xpress hulls having strength problems such as cracking and splitting in the keel? I have heard this from a few people and was looking to see if there is any truth to it? If it is true, does anyone have any ideas of how to prevent this by strengthening or protecting the keel? I am interested in buying a hd18cc and want to be aware of any problems I might run into.

I have a 16' Express that has no cracks in it...well, except those from running into the bridge when I lost control of my go-devil. But no unexplained cracks.

I bought a used 18'xpress boat, and I love it. I have had no problems out of it. But, the guy I bought it from said it cracked, right where the bottom of the boat meets the back. He said the trailor was to short and the back of the boat wasn't on the boards completly, causing it to crack. He brought it back to the dealer and they fixed the boat, plus moved the boat jack on the front of the trailor forward and he had no more problems. So just make sure the boat sits completly on the boards on the back.

Different people use their boats is different ways. I am not surprised that some people have problems with boats cracking as some people abuse their equipment. I know I see a lot of EXPRESS boats on the water they can't be that bad.

In saying that I beleive Xpress makes one of the best aluminum boats on the market. I own a 2004 H51 and never had any problems. I know quite a few people with Xpress boats and they love them also.

I had a 16' xpress. Unfortunately it did crack in the welds in the bow. I just drilled some holes at the end of the cracks so the couldn't spread anymore. Other than that I had no complaints with the boat.

I have a H56 and it has given me no trouble. It is a great boat to fish out of. Never had any problems with cracks. Also runs real smooth and fast with a 115. That Hyper Lift hull really gets it.

I had an Alweld aluminum boat that I had taken to a shop to have some cracked welds repaired, and noticed a CC XPress waiting to be worked on as well. Up until that point I had also been seriously considering a CC XPress. He told me that it would only be a matter of time before I would have the same issues with the CC XPress. However, it all depends on the conditions and places that you're running in. My damage was done due to too many choppy Lake Pontchartrain trips, and other trips across way too rough open water areas.

I don't own one but have been thinking about it for awhile. Last week I saw an express boat at a gas station with the 115 yamaha laying across the back deck. I told myself this is my chance to gather some good data on this boat. I turned around and as I got back to the boat the owner was coming out of the store with a case of Bud lite. He said it was his worse day ever on the water. He hit a stump and broke the motor completely off of the boat. The brackets that mount to the boat were still intact along with the ram for the power trim. The only thing that kept the motor from hitting the bottom of the canal was the wiring harness and the steering cable. So I thought with this kind of impact I was gonna see some kinks or cracks somewhere on the transom. The boat itself was flawless, not a scratch, kink, or crack to be found. I was amazed, and after seeing it for myself, Express will be my next boat.

I am on my third xpress boat with the oldest being a 1996, newest being a 2007. Used all boats in a fresh and salt water in all conditions. No cracks on either boat and still have and use the 1996 model boat. The 2007 model most likely be my last boat, but if not, it will just be a bigger Xpress. Good luck with your choice.
