(UPDATED) LA Sportsman web site ?? (UPDATED)

Do any of you guys have problems with this site loading every time you open another, page or make a post? Sometimes when I post something and hit the back arrow, it brings me back to the post before writing it. I think LA sportsman needs a larger server. They have the oppertunity to make this the best site not to mention a very profitable site. BUY A BIGGER SERVER !!! Im getting sick of it!!

Guys,

We have been trying to expand the quantity and the quality of the user experience on all of our sites for quite a while now. We are currently looking into upgrading to a bigger server, but we have also been looking into optimizing the software we're already running. And when I say we when it comes to software development, I mean me.

Today, I effectively lowered the load on our server by half by making some modifications to some of our software. Tomorrow, I will call our web hosting company to see what solutions they have to fit our needs. Because most of the software we have is home grown, we have some very specific needs that need to be addressed before we move forward.

your problem is between you and your web browser. The back arrow on a browser jumps back in your browser's history to pull up pages you've already visited. Has nothing to do with the server.

Addendum:

I have reactivated software that seems to have been inadvertently turned off by a server upgrade some time ago. This software will do three things: (1) it will automatically fix any "Fatal Errors" in the system by taking a snapshot every 5 minutes... (2) it will eliminate all SOLD classified ads that are more than a day old, (3) all classified ads now have a 60 day age limit from the last day they were modified. I chose the modified date instead of the creation date so that people who still need their ad to be on the site and have been faithfully updating it don't suddenly find their ad missing. I'm also working on finding a happy medium for a filesize issue on our videos site. If you haven't visited it yet, it's a great place to share your hunting and fishing videos. Yes I have the same problem. Sometimes it take for ever to load. I thought it was my computer.. Glad you brought it up

Only problem I have is that this site is not Firefox friendly. If you click on a post and then hit the back button it does not bring you back to the post you originally clicked on. It brings you to the top of the page. It does not do this with IE. I do work around this by right clicking on the photo or post and select open in new tab.

I agree with Captain rory, not firefox friendly at all, I thought it was my computer by I have a maseratti at my fingertips so i know that is not the problem.

Yep it is a firefox issue and adding all the server power in the world will not help. Never had any trouble with IE.

This site is very slow. Every other site I go to does not do this. It takes forever to navigate through.

I have firefox on a linux system, PC is about four years old. High-speed internet line. I've never had performance issues in the 9 years I've been here.

Not sure what the original poster is talking about. Yes it can slow up at times, all sites can during peek hours or it may be your ISP. There definitely is a Firefox issue though.

You can't blame the computer when every other web site I go on is fine. This site or "WEBMASTER" is slow.

I don't have a problem w/ this site and i have a pos dell w/ the new and improved pos vista.
i use I.E, as my Hp and don't have any delays or problems accessing lsw

It isn't the format so much but clicking on a thread to post and then clicking the back button. It takes forever and this is the only site that does it for me. I love the site, but I think that they could make it a little quicker. I know they have the revenue.

I ENJOY THIS SITE VERY MUCH. I GO TO IT JUST ABOUT EVERY DAY, BUT BOTH IN MY COMPUTER AT HOME AND AT WORK IT IS PRETTY SLOW. IT WOULD BE NICE IF THEY GOT A BIGGER SERVER BUT IT WILL NOT MAKE ME NOT VISIT THIS SITE. JUST MY .02 CENTS WORTH. NOW THAT WE GOT ALL OF THAT OUT OF THE WAY, WHERE ARE THE FISH BITING AT??? LETS GO CATCH A MESS.

If all messages and classified adds would be removed by the Sportman after 60 days,We would not have such a problem.We all have some type of post, but after a while some of us just leave the post forever. After 60 days, gone. If you want it on again, repost. Have a great day.

All I'm am saying is that the delayed response from this site does not happen on other sites for me. I look at 20 or sites on the net each day from hunting and fishing to team sports. This is the only web site that give me trouble. (On my home computer, computer at work and any time I use a PC)
PLEASE don't get me wrong, this is my favorite web site for the outdoors. I love everything about it from the people one here to the web design layout. I understand from your post (Webmaster) that LA Sportsman is doing something about the performance by contacting the necessary people.
Thank you for this much appreciated we site that thousands of us continue to enjoy each and every day.

Many thanks to cullin and the rest of the folks that have commented on ways to improve our site. I personally haven't noticed a slow down in loading the site either from home or office. However, its obvious that some of you are. We have taken what you have pointed out to us and are taking steps to improve. Part of the problem is due to the incredibly rapid growth of the site. That's a good problem to have. Again, many thanks.

There are many things that effect the end user's experience with a web browser, a few are your ISP, web browser, or setting for pop ups,security settings, or even scripting setting or software loaded onto the pc. Let me give you an example, I run into several issues helping folks where they have too many things trying to block **bad sites** or **malicious** things when I turn them off sites work faster..

All in all I see this site is comparable to any others and all I do when I am not outside is on the web including 10 hours a day on the web for work..

Go to www.iespell.com. It is a free spell check add on. It works great for those using Internet Explorer. If you are using Firefox you can go to the Firefox home page and find several free spell check plug-ins for it.

Rory, if LSM put on a spell checker program, 95% of the posters would be offended that they didn't learn to spell in school and not post anymore!! Not to mention that if they did use a spellchecker, it would slow down the whole internet considerably worse!! We surely wouldn't want that, would we????????? JMHO
