THISTLEWAITE

I spent the day scouting Thistlewaite yesterday and I left with more questions than answers. I am hoping that the more experienced Thistlewaite hunters could give me some advice. First of all how the hell do you walk to your hunting spots through all of those palmettos? Do you make trails through the palmetto's are do you just walk through them each day? Next, at other management areas I am used to finding deer trails and finding a tree that I can climb to hunt the trails. I know that it has not rained in forever, but I did not find one deer trial the whole day. I found a spot that I saw a few tracks so I decieded to find a tree to climb, but I feel as though I picked the spot because I could see pretty good. I do not feel as though I am in the SPOT. It seems as though everywhere you walk you see the same thing PALMETTOS! Your advice is greatly appreciated.

If you scout near some of the bean fields....there will be trails there.

If you find a spot that you want to hunt, mark it on your gps. Then start walking in a crisscross pattern to see if there is an easier path to get in and out from that area. Ditches or drains are usually easy to walk. Look online at some Topo maps to see where there maybe better ways to get to your spot.

THISTLEWAITE has walkin trals, so maybe you can use a trail to get closer to "your spot" and then walk through the palmettos to get there.

Sometimes this does work.... the walk may be a little longer, but much easier.
