hey guys i live in baton rouge and i was on my way to lafayette this weekend and i drove past the Henderson Swamp. I saw many duck blinds out in the water. Do people still hunt this area and it public or ??? Does anyone kill anything out there?

Public land hunting with a boat. Most blinds are floating blinds that you drive into with a boat. Can be good at times, but can be frustrating also.

yea well its better than nothing i guess. i just like being out there. I just moved from my mom's house in Alexandria to my dad's house in baton rouge last March. I used to be able to duck hunt every day of the season on a little bayou in the back of my neighbors property. Talk about fun! i used to slaughter the wood ducks! Well i am trying to find some places to duck hunt around Baton Rouge and when i drove past that on the way to a basketball game, i got kinda excited. i saw someone out in the back with a couple mojo's set up and i could see 'em flasin all the way from the bridge! I have a little 16 foot boat with a 25 mercury with built on lights, a trolling motor, and a push pole. would this be good enough? Can anyone tell me if there is anywhere you can go to get away from the Interstate? or does that not effect the ducks? also what kind of ducks are killed out there. i saw some flooded timber so there has to be some mallards and stuff like that! well all this just makes me friken excited! I know this is a lot to ask for, and if ya'll don't have time to answer all these questions haha its ok i understand, but any help is appreciated! thanks guys and god bless

that boat would be perfect for henderson...launch at the public launch in butte la rose, and go north of the interstate and find you a cove or go in the woods somewhere...in the south flats its mostly blackjacks and stuff that are killed, and its mainly the same people that have been hunting there for a long time that have blinds in there...make sure you get a permit for indian bayou though, b/c everything north of i10 in henderson is indian bayou...we've killed everything from mallards, teal, woodies, greys, etc...good mix of ducks in there.

Better be careful South of I 10!! Most of that is leased land. In the south flats the west side of the Amoco canal is leased and you must pay to put a blind there. The west side is leased also and Im not sure if they allow new blinds or not. All of the flooded timber south of the bridge is leased and you will be charged with trespassing so be careful.
