I am trying to help out a buddy of mine with his shotgun. He has a 1959 Browning Belgium A-5 in 12 gauge. He is wanting a Japanesse Browning A5 28inch barrel that can shoot steel shot. He also wants it to be able to be choked. The gun will shoot up to 3". Does anyone have any experience with this type of setup? Just trying to get some info to point him in the right direction.

Call the guys at Briley in Houston - the can point you in the right direction. There is a chance that they will be able to thread his barrel and install Briley choke tubes in it.

Thanks bay. He wants to shoot steel shot out of it also. From what he tells me, his current barrel can't handle the steel shot.

I could be wrong but I believe it can't shoot steel because of the choke. I know several guys that have had their older shotguns bored to improved cylender and are shooting steel with them - one of them is shooting a Remington Model 11 ( Browning A5 frame ) with the original barrel bored to light modified.

Check out http://www.corsonsbarrels.com/

They carry barrels for new, used, and obsolete guns.

You might get lucky and find something that you can use.

I think Baystealth is correct on this. Several years back I bought a Belgium A-5. It had a 32" barrel, full choke, and I was told definitely not to shoot steel out of it like that. Had a gunsmith wack 6" off the barrel and thread it for screw-in chokes, it's had quite a few cases of steel shot thru it since then with zero problems.
